| Before trying to building your own PC you might want to consider some option: 1)Upgrade your existing PC. If your computer is up to date in most departments you might want to salvage some of the existing components. Make a check list: Is your computer to slow for the internet? Not enough room on your hard drive? Poor sound? Poor graphics? Computer screens view area is to small? Your motherboard doesn't have any more upgrade ports/slots? Cpu is to slow? Outdated equipment? Don't have a computer? Maybe it's the software programs? Are they out of date? Are they not meeting your needs? Ask yourself: What is my computer lacking for you? Consider getting a barbones system or an upgrade system at the the ebay auction? http://www.ebay.com/ There are tons of auctions on full systems, barebones systems, and complete upgrades. Think before you leap. Maybe the computer you have now is capable and its just missing something? Don't get too chaught up in having the fastest computer. Maybe you can make your computer faster without replacing vital components. Search and discover. What is a PC? PC (1) Also see printed circuit board. (2) (Personal Computer) Although the term PC is sometimes used to refer to any kind of personal computer (Mac, Amiga, etc.), in this Glossary and in general, PC refers to computers that conform to the PC standard originally developed by IBM. Today the PC industry is governed by Intel, Microsoft and major PC vendors collectively. The PC is the world's largest computer base; 1998 estimates are from 250 to 350 million units. A rather wide range, one wonders who's keeping count. What is a Personal Computer? personal computer Synonymous with microcomputer, a computer that serves one user in the office or the home. PCs are the largest installed base of personal computers. Macintoshes are second. What is a Microcomputer? microcomputer Same as personal computer. What is a Computer? computer A general-purpose machine that processes data according to a set of instructions that are stored internally either temporarily or permanently. The computer and all equipment attached to it are called hardware. The instructions that tell it what to do are called software. A set of instructions that perform a particular task is called a program, or software program. A computer processes data by retrieving it from the keyboard, disk or communications channel into memory (RAM) and calculating, comparing and copying it. It then outputs the results to the screen, saves them on disk or perhaps transmits them back over a communcations channel.
