INHALATION HAZARDS
The BLE/SENSE safety program has initiated a new focus for the safety of all.
SENSE forms should be used to report any concerns that you may have regarding industrial inhalation exposure.
Railroad employees need to know:
1. What chemicals are being emited at the plant being switched?
2. What physical harm can these chemicals cause?
3. What are the evacuation procedures in case of a spill?
4. Is safety equipment needed?
5. Where is this equipment located?
6. What cautionary alarms are used at the plant?
7. All other safety concerns.
What is hoped by asking these questions, is to put together a systematic guide or timetable
addition so crews will be able to make informed decisions regarding these hazards.

May Safety Overlap. Prior to the May overlap meeting the BLE,UTU and G. E Metcalf met to discuss a HAZMAT safety plan for Yeoman Yard. Showers along the lead are being installed, some type over warning device (siren?) and evacuation routes are being discussed. This is a test program and if successful may be expanded to include other locations. In July we will be attending a HAZMAT class at a local industry to exchange ideas and information on how to better protect railroad employees while on their property. Look for further updates in the future.
