EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBEMS
Our nervous system is an intricate network of specialized tissue
that is responsible for our impulses, emotions, sensations , thoughts
and actions as well as control of the metabolic functions of living.
The basic element of the nervous system is the neuron, or nerve cell.
Individual nerurons are among the largest cells in the body.
The central nervous system consist of the brain and spinal cord. An
adult brain weights more than three pounds and consist of billions of
innerconnected nerve cells. They are protected and cushioned by
seven layers of tissue and spinal fluid. All our actions, sensations
and thoughts whether awake or asleep are mediated by the brain.
The peripheral nervous system includes the cranial nerves (those
that branch directly from the brain) and spinal nerves (those that
branch from the spinal cord). These nerves convey sensory nessages
to the central nervous system from receptor cells in the body. And carry
motor impulses from CNS to the muscles and glands that can act on impulse.
The autonomic nervous system is a subsidiary system that governs all
functions not subject to willful control, such as gland secretion, It controls
the heart, lungs and digestive tract.
