Magpies are not really a pest to farmers, more so game keepers, as the when the bird lay their eggs they are outside so it is easy for them to steal their eggs. People think that they are a pest to hens farmers but their not really because when hens lay their eggs they are in a hen coop. The only time that the magpies are a pest to chicken farmers is when they have an outside coop, and when the hen lays its eggs it rolls outside into a shelf and then the magpie can help its self.
Magpies are also considered a pest to some bird watchers s they scare off the smaller birds so it is not uncommon for people that own bird watches to call pest control to get rid of the magpies.
People don't usually shoot magpies, they usually just use a larchin trap. If you have an air rifle the best way to shoot magpies is to either use decoys or to make a nest and then you will be shooting them in the dozen.all you need to make a nest is straw and some eggs (you may need about a dozen eggs to reset the nest). All you need to make it is to get a handful of straw and put it in a ball then put it on the ground where magpies will either fly over it or see it. From then on it is really simple, once you are ready for the shot, then pop it off |
