14---FROG STORY My neighbors have one of those small statue frogs in their back yard. It is designed to make frog-like noises when it senses motion. I guess because of all the rain in our area, there was a short circuit within this frog and it would randomly make very loud croaking noises throughout the seemingly endless nights. To add to this dilemma, many of the frogs from the near by lake were attracted by this all to real frog impersonator. Soon the nights were filled with the sounds of hundreds of over stimulated frogs. Sleep became impossible and as I laid there in my bed, I found myself thinking unkind thoughts towards these frogs. I found myself wishing for snakes, lots and lots of snakes. The story ends with my neighbors becoming aware of the situation even though their bed room is on the opposite side of the house. They took the frogs battery out and once again peace has been restored in our neighborhood. The end. 13---1st CLASS I was waiting in line to purchase a airline ticket. A well dressed man, standing in front of me, commented that he normally flies first class and doesn't have to wait in line, but that all of the first class seats were already filled. I replied by saying, "when a jet is out of control and heading strait down at 500 miles per hour, we're all in the same class". We sat and talked while waiting to board the aircraft. We liked each other even though we were very different. He was very educated and very successful in life. I am simple and my life is simple. A lady recognized him and came over to us. She looked down at me and asked me if I knew who it was that I had the honor of sitting and talking with. I replied, "yes, his name is Chuck" She informed me that Chuck had many, very impressive credentials and told me what they were. After she finished, I replied, " I knew he was at least, all of those things " In a short while we parted to different seat locations on the aircraft. I never saw him again, but I will always remember Chuck, the well dressed, highly educated, very successful man, with a list of credentials that included the most important credential of all, he had a heart, he treats all people as equals. 12---1000 DEATHS I have heard it said that a coward dies one thousand deaths because he thinks of death often, and that a brave person dies only once because he never thinks about such things. I think it is more likely to be the other way around. The truly brave person gets past the discomfort of thinking of death often and allows his or her life to be shaped in a mature, healthy, and positive way by that awareness. 11---THE LITTLE THINGS The father and son were going fishing this day. Both of them keep a daily journal. At the end of the day, the father writes- "went fishing with the boy today, a wasted day". All these things together almost shake the faith, but it must not be so. ----------- Eleanor Allen 1852 Barlow road emigrant 7---UNDERSTAND / MISUNDERSTAND It is more important to not misunderstand than it is to understand. When we misunderstand we are coming up with a inaccurate answer to a question that would have been better-off, if left unanswered. How many questions have we answered inaccurately? --- unknown 6---If I’m going to do, what I need to do, then I must become, someone new, and that someone, I may find, was layers deep within me, all the time. 5---The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. --- Laura Robbins 4---ANALOGY OF THE ENGINE THAT COULD There was once a engine, it was well built but it had one major flaw, it couldn’t run long without needing small but frequent adjustments. Without those small but frequent adjustments this engine would start to run very rough, and very soon after that it would start to sputter and quit. No mechanic school known to man was capable of teaching what it would take to keep this engine running smoothly, it needed a mechanic that had a special God given ability. No one knew that such a mechanic even existed so this engine was taken and thrown in a old wood pile where it remained for many years. One day, a very special little girl was born. It turned out that this little girl would some day be that special one of a kind mechanic with that special God given ability to keep this engine running. She had such a incredible gift when it came to keeping this engine running smoothly that she didn’t even need to put out any special effort, all she had to do was be her self, and be there next to the engine to care and to understand. Her special, one of a kind ability came from the fact that she had a unusually special loving relationship with the Lord. There may have been other similar cases throughout time where a special mechanic was needed for a special job. One of those cases was the case of Adam and Eve. It turned out that Adam’s engine was very sad and alone and God knew that it wasn’t prozac or counseling that was needed, it was a special mechanic by the name of Eve. 3---A STRONG WOMAN VERSUS A WOMAN OF STRENGTH A strong woman works out every day to keep her body in shape... but a woman of strength kneels in prayer to keep her soul in shape... A strong woman isn't afraid of anything...but a woman of strength shows courage in the midst of her fear... A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey... but a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong... ----unknown 2---WHERE I WOULD LIKE TO BE Oh, to find the current, to feel it’s gentle pull, to no longer fight to go somewhere, to finally trust in full. 1--- RESISTING HELP ANALOGY I was on a bicycle ride several years ago and there was a little non-poisonous snake in the middle of the road. I had gloves on so I didn't think twice about reaching down, picking it up, and putting it well off from the road so that it wouldn't get run over by a car. As I was carrying it to safety it was biting my gloves repeatedly and with much vigor. I think that sometimes we may be like the little snake, we resist God when He is trying to help us. |
