| Justice Alma L. Lopez, 4th Court of Appeals, Place One |
Dear Voter,
I serve as a justice on the Fourth Court of Appeals. As a Justice, I review appeals from the 32 counties that comprise the Fourth Court of Appeals judicial district. Prior to becoming a justice, I practiced law for 25 years, primarily family law and immigration law. In September 1993, Governor Ann Richards appointed me to the bench, and in November 1994, the voters of Texas elected me to my current position.
I will run for reelection to the Fourth Court of Appeals in November 2000. I believe my experience-six years as a justice and 25 years of practicing law-makes me the best qualified candidate for the job. I hope I can count on your support.
My primary concern for the election is low voter turnout. Despite the importance of this fundamental right, the number of people who actually vote continues to decrease in each election. In response, I have developed a campaign program entitled "Pledge 20 in 2000." This program has two objectives: to increase voter turnout and to obtain your pledge of support.
To participate in this program, I ask you to pledge to vote for me, and to obtain the pledges of 20 of the eligible voters closest to you. These individuals can be your friends, relatives, neighbors or coworkers. Hopefully, those 20 people will, in turn, pledge to vote for me, and then obtain the support of the 20 people who are closest to them, and so forth to build a pyramid of voters. In this way, together, we can increase voter turnout.
I ask you to support me in this program by completing the attached Pledge Pyramid wiht the names and addresses of 20 pledges. I ask that you complete the attached Voting Pledge wherein you promise to actually go to the polls and to VOTE.
While your vote is very important to me, your efforts to see that your 20 pledges actually go to the polls and vote is equally important. As election time draws near, please remind your pledges about the importance of voting and encourage them to go the polls. Help your pledges get to the polls by providing them rides to the polls, babysitting their children while they go to the polls, or whatever it takes-just get everyone to vote!
In closing, don't waste this valuable right. Go to the polls and vote-and please, vote for me.
Sincerely,
Alma L. Lopez
