Bergen County Police Frequencies

Bergen County, New Jersey

Located Outside New York City, Population approximately 850,000, containing 70 municipalities.69 municipal fire departments (4 are full time paid), 68 local Police Departments, 3 County Law Enforcement Agencies.The Bergen County Police, maintains a highway patrol, Bomb, SWAT, Mounted, Auto Theft, K-9, Executive Protection,Office of Emergency Management, Medical Examiner units; The Bergen County Prosecutors Officeinvestigates all major crimes within the county, such as Arson,Narcotics, Sex, Homicide etc. with the use of various Task Forces, made up of ProsecutorsInvestigators, County Police, County Sheriff officers and local Officers.

The Bergen County Sheriff's Department is involved with the security of the Jails, County Court House as well as CivilProcess and warrants unit and conduct investigations related to the jail/court security with the useof a K-9 unit. There is little involvement by the New Jersey State Police in Bergen County, they limit their patrolto the major Interstate Highways which cross the area; Interstate 287, 80, 95 (Turnpike), Garden State Parkway.

Each town, except the Boro of Teterboro, have their own Fire Department. Teterboro contracts with Hasbrouck Heights for Fire/Ambulance services. Teterboro Airport has 2 crash trucks which can communicate on 154.160/154.280 with the County and area Fire Departments. The Bergen County Police and adjacent Little Ferry and Moonachie Police Departments for Police Services. The Boro of Rockleigh contract with the Bergen County Police for Police services and fire dispatch and the Boro of Northvale for ambulance service.

There is no centralized Countywide dispatch center. Most towns receive their own 911 calls and are self dispatched, but there are some towns that share 911 dispatch functions:

River Vale for Old Tappan
Closter for Alpine, Northvale, Norwood, Demarest, Harrington Park
Park Ridge for Woodcliff Lake & Montvale
Dumont for Haworth
The County Police Located in Hackensack, maintains a backup 911 center and a backup fire dispatch/page forthose towns listed on 154.1600. Their mobile Command Post is equipped with every frequency in use in the North Jersey area.

All Paramedic Units have County Police Channel 9, a task force of Paramedics have been trained to respond with and operate with the County Police SWAT team. Also MICOM paramedic Dispatch can be contacted on CH 9.

Several towns have a base on County Police channel 3; and those towns operating on UHF have County Police channels 1,2,3 in their mobiles.

New Jersey Dept Of Transportation - DOT supervisors can use and are contacted on Ch 1 and the County Police also have a base on the DOT Low band channel 47.3600.
