Dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost

The Dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost were the two major dwarven cities in the Blue mountains, during the ages of beleriand. They were destroyed, and sank into the sea after the War of Wrath (detailed in the Silmarillion).

There were some incredible blacksmith's from these dwarven cities, the most famous was Telchar, who wrought Narsil, the Blade that cut the one ring from Sauron's hand. The dwarves were on good terms with the Noldor elves, because they both loved Aulë, since the Noldor were also very interested in crafts. The dwarves and Noldor elves benefited much from each other in trade. The dwarves of Nogrod built Menegroth, the thousand caves, for King Thingol (the elf king of Beleriand). King Thingol had many smithies which he had the Nogrod dwarves work in, and when he had in his hold both a Silmaril, and the greatest necklace the dwarves had ever fasioned, he requested for them to be made together. After the dwarves did this for him, he came to collect it, but they refused, and after harsh words from both sides, they slew Thingol. This caused a great war, where the Nogrod dwarves destroyed Doriath, but they were then slaughtered by a elf army.

The army of Belegost and Nogrod won renown in the battle of unnumbered tears, since dwarves were the only ones that could stand up to dragon fire. The dwarves had great masks, and had more tolerance to heat. As I said, sadly, Nogrod and Belegost were destroyed when Beleriand was destroyed during the War of Wrath. Most of the dwarves that survived went to Khazad-dum.
