Dear Mr. Burgess:

Thank you so very much for sharing with us a copy of the latest issue of PORTALS. I have read with interest the book review on "The Green Wave and the Navy: History of the USS BENFOLD". The story you told certainly deserves nationwide attention and I hope that once the book is published, the book reviewers will give such attention.

As you may know I too was with the 1st Marine Division in Korea and the story of Navy Corpsman Edward C. Benfold has touched me deeply.

In response to your suggestion for a commemorative ceremony, May I suggest that you contact the Department of Defense 50th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee, (address omitted) and request an application to become a commemorative community. Audubon, a town so rich with military heroes and history, could easily qualify to become a commemorative community. I salute you and would like to note that even small towns produce great heroes. (I am the product of one.) My best to you for all your future endeavors.

Sincerely, Warren H. Wiedhahn, Colonel, USMC, Retired, Executive Director
