Well how depressing. Out of my 15 possibilities, I only got 2 (20%) correct. I am doing very bad at this. I am sorry to see that the Asian and African countries did not do well this year. How did you do? Send in your comments to beauty_pageant99@hotmail.com.

Miss World 1999 Viewer Comments:

PA7169: I strongly believe India won again because it is a british colony. Yukta is tall that's why she won the crown. Venezuela deserves to win the title but I noticed that Martina she is a look-a-like face of Miss Switzerland 1983 loretta morena who won Miss Photogenic at Miss World 1982 and miss universe 1983. Miss Spain Lorena Bernal must be in the top 3, replacing South Africa. South Africa landed again in the top 3 because her country is a british colony. I think Miss World is a fix pageant and winners must be a British colony. instead of "beauty with a purpose" is must be "beauty for british colony only".

SNOOPYY3K: The Miss World competion this year was a surprise for me. Even though I did not see the competion the top ten list was to see very interesting for lack of a better word ala Miss Universe 1998, and 1999. I think that these pageant organizers as of late have become so blatent at showing how economic interests are involed in chosing the top ten in these pagenats. It is as if they don't care any more and they are really showing people the mechanics of how these pageants are actually runned. Don't get me wrong I think that some of the contestants that are chosen for the top ten and some of the ones that are chosen as the winners do in fact deserve such an honor, but let us be realistic there are some contestants that you just ask yourself "what is wrong with this picture"? Lately it is not the most intellectual or even the most beautiful that wins, and unfortunately until first and second interests stop influencing in the decision making of how pageants are run, we are going to see more of the same countries being in the top ten, representatives that don't belong in the top ten are going to be there, and countries that are repeating as winners when they do not deserve to win are going to do so. I am latin, and in this years Miss World Competition there were many outstanding girls from alover Latin America. It breaks my heart when I saw that the only representative from my side of the world was Venezuela. I am proud for her and her country that she was selected as the first runner up, but as a pageant lover I have noticed that organizers want the latin girls (from other countries) to emulate the Venezuelan girls as far as looks and overall package, otherwise they do make the cut and I think that it is a horrible message that it is being sent.

Rabah Al-Aawar: The party was o.k. but not that much. It was too similar to that of last year. I was very surprise that Miss India, Yukta Mookhey, made it to the crown! I thought that Miss Venezuela, Martina Thorogood, would make it, but she didn't. What is surprising I believe is that the Venezuelans now are facing a very strong "enemy", the Indians. Venezuela won 5 times Miss World, and now the Indians have won 4 times. I wonder who will score the highest number of times. But now, let me go back to dish about the over all of the party. Miss India was extremely intelligent, but not beautiful at all. I believe that Miss Venezuela was even more beautiful than her, but I believe that beauty didn't help that much! I congratulate Miss India of winning the title, and I hope that Miss Venezuela would bring better success in the 2000 Miss Universe Pageant which will be held in Cyprus. A side of that, I am very surprised that Miss Lebanon did not make it to the top 10. She was looking so beautiful and so elegant that I thought that she would win. She is not only beautiful, she is also extremely intelligent and I believe that she deserved to be one of the top 10. I hope that she would do better too in the 2000 Miss Universe Pageant. But hey, wait a second here, how come Miss Israel, Genny Chervoney, win the best gown award? Her gown was so ugly, and I believe that she didn't deserve that award at all. I hope next year the Miss World Pageant would look different from this year's pageant, and I hope that the winner next year would not only be intelligent, but also beautiful.

Celon: Misses India and Venezuela are gorgeous and perfect, no question about it, but its very depressing that Miss Philippines didnt make to the semi-finals, she has the confidence, best personality and poise. I knew some of the audience were impressed during the evening gown parade. I heard large applause. Miss Chile, Greece, Spain & Colombia are great but didnt make it. Except for Miss Spain but her gown was not superb. I guess there`s always a favoritism among the judges and organizers or is there really a racial discrimination in Miss World Pageant? I notice that Misses South Africa and India always the favorites and landed as finalists. I dont think I can connect to the case that India and South Africa are past British colonies. This is only my views and not intended to offend English people.

Richard: Miss World was a beautiful contest this year. I still think that Martina (from my country Venezuela ) was the most beautiful girl and she looked perfect on the final night. India is ok, but Martina is special. Anyway I believe that she is gonna be Miss Universe 2000!. I`m not telling this because I`m from Venezuela, I say it because it was really clear. The top 10 were beatiful girls, but I think that there were beatiful girls that did not reach this group: Mexico, Lebanon, Brazil and Philippines. Congratulations for your page, I think it's excellent.

Asdrubal: I could not see the Miss World program but as Venezuelan, I knew that Martina was ready to get it. I think that the Miss Venezuela Organization decided to send her to Miss World because they were confident that she was going to get another Miss World Title for Venezuela (5 times Miss World so far). I'm sure she will make it in Miss Universe 2000!

Henrique: I had the chance to see all the girls and talk to some of them before the pageant. Most people bet their money on Misses Venezuela, India, and UK in London. The favorites among the girls were Misses Lebanon and Paraguay. This time they also liked Miss Venezuela, who besides being gorgeous, was very classy, educated and a good friend to the other contestants. In my opinion the greatest Miss Venezuela of all times. Miss India was not very popular among them. Some of them commented that she was a bit stuck up and spent her time telling the other contestants she was going to win the crown... Only confidence???? Miss South Africa looked insignificant out of the stage, but when she entered the stage she is transformed, absolutely gorgeous!! Israel was never talked about, which means that she was a surprise, although I must say her dress was amazing and she did look gorgeous on the final night. Liberia was the Ghana/Jamaica of Miss World. NOBODY ever mentioned that girl. Maybe the judges saw something anybody else did... Nice personality but ordinary, very ordinary looks. Zimbabwe, Tanzania, among other black contestants looked much better than she did. USA was stunning sometimes, very simple other times but great personality and body. Croatia, Norway, and Estonia were not expected among the finalists, especially the last two. Spain, along with Venezuela, had the most beautiful face of the pageant. Her dress was HORRIBLE though... and I feel for her. What a beauty! There were many incredible girls left out of the finals. Czech and Slovak Rep. were real knock-outs!! The two best ones as far as looks. Miss Holland was a hit as well. Sweden was not only absolutely beautiful, but also intelligent and very kind. Italy was very impressive, and so were Ukraine, Greece, Yugoslavia, Iceland, and Latvia (from Europe). Turkey was pretty, but not ALL THAT, as some of us thought she was. From Africa, Zimbabwe stood out, absolutely sensational!! The Asian group was weak. Philippines was the only exception, she was noticed by many. Hong Kong was also pretty and smart. As far as the others, the Western girls were not even able to say from which counties they came (since they did not wear sashes most of the times). Bangladesh was a HUGE deception! That photographer is a magician! The woman was so plain and simple, besides being 5'2 or even shorter. From Ocenia we had Tahiti and New Zealand looking good. North, Central America and the Caribbean didn't say much this year as well... Panama was pretty and very nice and Mexico looked like a BIG Aly Landry. The Mexican girl looked good, but after meeting Lupita (who I already disliked), i was gald she didn't make it. The Caribbean was a deception in relation to last year. I was not impressed by anyone there. Puerto Rico was cute, but that was it... South America did have a strong group this year, probably one of the strongest ever. Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Chile all looked nice. Paraguay as I mentioned before was very pretty, a favorite to win the crown, and Brazil surprised me in a positive way. Paula is not photogenic at all, she looks much better in person. She spoke good English, was tall, and was also very popular among the girls. She looked great on stage, although her dress was not that good, and deserved a spot among the semi-finalists. As for India and Venezuela they were in fact the best girls running for the crown. Although Venezuela was prettier, India won when she nailed her top 10 interview. Very smart answers coming from a poised and confident woman. I like the way Venezuela talked, she was spontaneous and classy, you could feel that she was the won speaking, and not a "programmed robot" with 10 possible answers, in other words, much different from most girls from the country. However, she was a bit off and less convincing than India. I am sure she will do well in Cyprus, and I will be happy if she becomes Miss Universe 2000.
