Mickey of USA: Lot of surprises this year. What happened to the preliminary competition jury? What where they thinking about when they chose Miss Estonia, Miss South Africa, and Miss Canada? Even Miss USA, what was she doing on the top 10? And then, they "crucified" Miss Colombia... what a beauty she is. It was obvious that Latin girls were going to be excluded this year. How come Mexico, Bolivia, and my personal favorite Miss Puerto Rico, where left out. Even Miss Phillipines had all to be on the top 10. I think that the pageant organization should consider going back to the old format of one jury for the whole competition. Since the dual jury is fuctioning lots of surprises come along, and then Miss Universe Inc. complains because their "selections" aren't making money. Anyway, congratulations to Lara Dutta, and we'll see what happens next year.
Kris of USA: I thought this years Miss Universe pagenat was one of the worse ones I have seen. The opening number was ok, but I would have liked to see them in their national costumes. Also, they should have said each delegates names. I was so surprised to see Canada, Estonia, and South Africa in the top 10...I think Mexico, Philippines, Aruba or Puerto Rico should have made top ten instead of those three. I was glad to see 3 of my choices in top 10...Colombia, Zimbabwe, and India. Miss Venezuela wasn't in my top 10 choices, but I thought she was very beautiful, and did deserve a place in top 10. I hated the fact there was no top 10 Interview competition this year, I like to hear all 10 get interviewed. I thought Miss Zimbabwe and Miss Colombia should have had higher scores in swimsuit...Miss Zimbabwe looked great..she didn't deserve that low score she got, and same with Miss Colombia. The Evening gown competetion was ok, but Miss Zimbabwe's gown was too much, and I absolutely hated Miss Estonia's gown. I loved Miss Colombia and Miss Spain's evening gowns. In top five I thought Miss Zimbabwe or Miss Colombia should have taken Canada's spot..I agreed with the top 3 choices...India, Venezuela, and Spain were great. Overall....the pageant was ok, but not as good as it could have been. But in the end...they gave the Miss Universe 2000 to the best deserving delegate...Congratulations Lara Dutta...Miss India, now Miss Universe!
Ivan Torres of Mexico: Congratulattions on your page, it is one of my favorites. This year i have two feelings: one is of happiness because the victory of lara dutta, she deserve the crown, but on the other hand, i feel dissapointed, because miss mexico, letty murray, wasn't at least in the top ten, i think she really deserved it!, because if you saw her photo, and interview she gave very good answers!, and when she appears in the presentation show she filled the tv screen with her beauty, honestly i don't know what were the things that the judges saw in south africa, canada (with those horribles implants!!), and estonia that mexico doesn't had. i don't like the new way of not let the semifinalist speak!, i think that colombia would be in a better position if she would had the oportunity of speak because i saw her national competition and when she won the miss colombia pageant she was smart, quiet and with charm in her voice, it is an error not to hear the semefinalist express herself in an short chat at least. i hope the next year the judges will be more aware of the way of choosen the semifinalists, also sorry for Philippines this year, but what can i do now, just focus on the great winner of this year and try to be glad with the clairol award for mexico and rewind the videocassette in the bit of time that the pageant recognized her beauty.
Charles of Australia: Are we watching the Music Awards or Miss Universe? I think the Miss Universe Organization has done a big mistake this year. Starting of with the opening. This was good but the delegates name should have been said, and it lacked energy. The Interview competition has to be back, and the part where that lady was singing during the National Costumes Preview was also a mistake. I thought they should have replaced it with more presence of the delegates on the stage with their sashes on. Disappointed but a great WINNER!
Lisa Landrigan of Australia: Like many others, I was disappointed in this years televised pageant but interestingly enough after reading everybodys comments I feel less cheated. I, like many others picked India to be the winner but unlike many, I loved Miss Canada, I thought she had the most beautiful face and I honestly thought those boobs were real (I mean who would pay to have them look like that?) I also loved Zimbabwe, France and Colombia. I screwed up my nose when Estonia and S. Africa made it (they were not Miss Universe material) I feel so sad for Philippines(stunner) and Panama, I loved her. I didn't like Spain either but as I said at the beginning, I feel less cheated as many loved Spain and hated Canada. I think Philippines would have to get the award for the most loved by us all out in pageant land.
Rainier of Philippines: First of all, I want to say that ur site is kewl and very informative especially to Ms. Universe fanatics out there. Keep up the good work and more power! This year's pageant didn't match up to my expectations because I thought it would be far better than the wonderful pageant held in Trinidad and Tobago. Unlike last year's it was dull and removing the parade of nations with the national costumes on was a big drag. It was the only time where people can know and meet the delegates. Another thing was the Top 10, it was horrible. No Mexico, Puerto Rico, Aruba, Ghana and Philippines. I thought they were far off better than South Africa, Estonia and Canada. (what were they doing in the top 10?) Philippines should have been there because she was smart and really looked good especially in her swimsuit They shouldnt have removed the interview portion because it is one way of knowing the candidates better The fashion ramp was another waste of time. It was utterly disgusting. Compared to last year in Trinidad, this year was really a drag. The other semi finalists looked ok and fine for me except for Zimbabwe's gown. Anyway, Congratulations to the finalists for being so good sports and most of all to Miss India. Although i dont consider her very beautiful, she is smart, bright and full of ideas. I think she deserved to be the Miss Universe compared to the other finalists. The only thing I liked was the unique stage and the musical performances of Elvis Crespo and Montell Jordan. Their performances suited the evening gown and swimsuit competitions. I hope next year's pageant would be a lot better than this year's.
Wilfredo Acuna of Philippines: This year's pageant was a disappointment. The slogan about how Miss Universe is being redefined for today, but what kind of changes are these, seems to be they're dragging the pageant down instead of improving it. They did away with the parade of national customes and instead had everyone wearing almost a uniform dress. When they did show the national customes in the middle of the pageant, the delegates were not wearing any sashes, so how could you tell from which country there from? They didn't even allow the contestants to introduce themselves, I wonder if the pageant is saving on air time, but perhaps they should have cut corners elsewhere. Everything seems topsy turvy, what used to be first is now in the middle. The announcement of the ten semi-finalists came almost too fast. They did away with the interview portion which prevented everyone in getting a chance to know the contestants. About the top ten, I was surprised that Miss South Africa, Miss Canada and Miss Zimbabwe made it so far. There were other delegates who seemed more deserving such as Philippines, Chile, New Zealand or Mexico. It would have been interesting to see their preliminary scores. The judges doesn't seem to be that good, perhaps they should be more careful in getting judges or perhaps get more judges so that power of picking out the next Miss Universe would be spread out to more people and the judges should really be international in character. I've noticed that most of the judges this time were American, the U.S.A. isn't the rest of the world. Of those who made it to the top ten, I think that Miss Colombia was the best, she was really beautiful and elegant, how did the judges miss that? For those who made it to the final three, I was surprised that the interpreter gave such a short interpretation for the one given by Miss Spain, maybe they should check the qualifications of the interpreters. I've been watching the pageant since the mid 1980s, the Miss Universe organization should perhaps review the past pageants, they seemed to be better, they had glamour and elegance, this one instead seemed rushed and dry. Bring back the old Miss Universe.
Lerabel of USA: I had no doubt in my mind that miss india would be the new Miss Universe. She is not only beautiful but also very eloquent. I'm very dismayed on how they pick those judges. They should have been more diverse in picking a judge. I bet some of those judges don't even know what they're doing there. Miss philippines for one, a lot of the audience thought that she should at least be one of the top ten. What happened? I hope Mr. Trump would do a better job next time in choosing a judge who's well equipped in judging a beauty pageant.
Tiffany of Australia: I was so disappointed that Miss Australia, Samantha Frost, was not in the top 10... particularly as I have been watching the Miss Universe web sites for weeks now and on one web site Miss Australia was touted to be the one to beat!? Not only that...but I could not even SPOT her in the telecast, as the girls did not have sashes on and were hardly given any length of camera time at all...you would never have even known she was there! I wished the girls themselves had introduced themselves and their country as usual. I wish the 10 semi-finalists were not picked so quickly...it all seemed so rushed and pre-determined...you didn't get a chance at all to get to know the personalities of the girls. It was such a shame that all 10 girls were not given the chance to speak...they were cheated of an opportunity to make it into the top 5...and seemingly were purely judged on how they looked...not who they were...I thought Miss Universe was being redefined? I thought Miss France was gorgeous and sweet...I would have liked to hear her speak. Miss Canada was a surprise....although she was one of my original picks from looking at just photo's...very pretty. I thought the interpreter definitely did NOT do justice to Helen Lindes answer to the final question....I can;t understand Spanish, but the audience members who could obviously admired her answer as they were cheering before the interpretor gave her translation which I felt was too brief...how could she have remembered such a long answer word for word? I think Miss Venezueala was playing for time asking for an interpretation of the question and then answering in English...she was OK but I think there were more deserving delegates to have been in the top 10. I would have left out Miss USA...how political was her inclusion....she was ORDINARY!! Miss Estonia, Miss Zimbabwe, Miss South Africa and Miss Canada....and I would have liked to have seen Misses Australia, Brazil, Aruba, Phillipines and Chinese Taipei in their places. Congratulations to Lara Dutta...I sincerely do not think ANY of the other girls could have beaten her. I know she was a favourite and this often makes me want those girls to prove themselves...but she just shone...she is something special...not only beautiful, poised and elegant, but intelligent, articulate and eloquent into the bargain...one of the best Miss Universe's I have seen.
Rabah of Lebanon: This years pageant was an O.K. one. Sinbad, Julie, and Ali were great! I am surprised first that the delegates' names were not announced! What is this? Stupidity? The Miss Universe Pageant is trying to change to the better or to the worse? I believe the names should have been announced. Plus, the presentation show sounded like an African one (almost). I didn't feel anything Cypriotic. I only liked the stage. It is great! The sky background, the light balls held by the delegates, and Mpule coming out from the ground and sitting on a rock symbolizing Aphrodite - That was fabiolous! The delegates looked better than there photos on the internet. Miss Lebanon looked beautiful than ever! Venezuela was stunning! I liked all the delegates except some - They won't be mentioned (sorry!!!) When the top ten were announced I was hoping for Lebanon, Aruba, New Zealand, Mexico, and I had a feeling that Jamaica and Puerto Rico would make it too. But a big surprise. None of these girls made it. Anyway, I guessed 6 right out of ten! Spain, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, India, South Africa, and USA! Actually Jamiaca were not my top ten pics. I just had a feeling they will make it. I am surprised that this year there was no interview or world tour competition. This was a very wrong move by the Miss Universe Organization. And the swimsuits, Spain looked not bad. Canada - What tha? Everyone noticed that she has a huge breast. The rest were great. India looked the best! Venezuela too. Elvis Crespo "Suavemente" was great. In the Evening Gown competition, I was surprised! Careless Whispers! An excellent old song. Montell Jordan sung it well. All the gowns looked great except that of Venezuela. Although she got the highest mark there, but I didn't like the gown. Spain's gown was the best! India's too! Red devil I have to say (India's gown.) Top 5 announced and what a big shock, Canada. She doesn't deserve that. USA didn't do the way I expected. Her hair looked horrible as if it was burned by fire! Spain was cute. India was extremely powerful. Now the top three were announced, and USA did not make it. But I have to say Spain didn't answer in a good way. She was very nervous. Veneuela I liked her answer. India I fell in love with her! An excellent and a very powerful answer. That is way she was crowned this year's Miss Universe. Congratulations to her, and hope next year the Miss Universe Pageant had took all the chokes that were done in this year's pageant in to consideration.
Bernard of Singapore: I am disappointed that Miss Colombia missed the mark for the final 5! I believe she will fit in perfectly with Miss India, USA, Venezuela and Spain. Canada was not that great-looker but maybe she has the X-factor. I felt that Colombia's gown and swimsuit segment was great! Heard that she had the best legs, gown that's stunning etc! Well, anyway, lets congratulate Lara for winning! I am proud of her too! I didn't get to watch the live performance and would be glad to purchase the tape from anybody out there who's willing to sell me, my e-mail address is: Megastar@mbox2.singnet.com.sg.
Kim Schwannecke of USA: I have been reading the comments posted, and I can't believe how bent out of shape more people are. It's really rather funny. I have been a fan of pageants for years. My personal favorite is the Miss America system. I attend the Miss Michigan Pageant every year and last year went to see the Miss Michigan USA Pageant. I never miss watching Miss USA & Miss Universe and wish they would show Miss World on TV. I can't believe how many people are picking on Miss Canada. I thought she was a lovely girl. Maybe, she just happens to have large breasts. I personally really liked this years show. It would have been nice to see top ten interviewed but, I must say I found it enjoyable. The majority of the top ten were good and Ali and Julie didn't carry on and the winner was a great choice. So, I guess i am in the minority because so many of the comments said is awful. I always considered myself a good judge of pageants, Oh well! The winner was an excellent choice, everything that you would expect a Miss Universe to be. I wasn't thrilled with Estonia, Zimbabwe or South Africa. I would have had Philippines, Mexico & Puerto Rico or Finland. It was amazing how many truly beautiful women there were this year. There were so many to choose from. It definetly was a good year for the Miss Universe Pageant.
Jason Cruz of Philippines: I found this year's pageant very disappointing. First they did away with the usual opening parade in national costumes, everyone was dressed the same and that's such a waste of the international character of the pageant. Instead of the contestants introducing themselves, we now get just the announcer saying the country's name which again takes away the benefit of hearing even just once the majority of the contestants. Then on the semi-finalists, they did away with the interview portion, you don't even get a chance to know the contestants. The evening gown competition lacked the glamour of the past pageants, at least the swimsuit portion was still okay. It was also too bad that they did away with each contestant wearing their sash, so in the portions where all of them are shown, you can't identify who they are. Sinbad as a host is one of the worst the pageant has had. And why are there only 7 judges to chose the next Miss Universe, perphaps that's why some of the more qualified contestants got overlooked. I really feel that Miss Philippines deserved to be among the Top Ten. After watching the pageant for so many years, its sad to see it going downhill. I hope they can fix it so that the 50th Miss Universe Pageant would be better. At this point in time, it seems that the Miss World Pageant is the better one.
Louie Nacarioof of USA: This years show was hum-hum. First of all, Sinbab was a bad choice as an emcee. He buckles and tries ever so hard to crack jokes that doesn't really tickle. The Top Ten was a joke. I believe that there are better delegates than SOUTH AFRICA, Estonia, USA and France. What with a predominant Caucasian judges this was expected. Who chooses the judges anyway...what credibility does that MTV Fluke has? I believe that with a wide diversity of judges all the delegates has better chances of competing. Where was Ms. Philippines...she was far better deserving than the others. The new format was terrible...but the only thing that made this pageant a success was Ms. India. She truly deserved the crown.
Alex of USA: I was surprised by Canada although I liked Estonia, very cute! I really wasn't impressed with USA either as she wasn't my choice for the Nationals. I hate her hair. I would have rather seen Colombia up there. Most people felt stronger about Aruba & Trinidad than France and the french beauty at least placed. I also loved that set & the opening was flawless. Don't agree with you on Sinbad, with his corny jokes & that laugh track. Like anyone in that audience knew Barry White or that Detroit has major crime. Top ten should have been interviewed. All I know is that for the 50th anniversary I hope CBS will let them do a 1 hour special before the pageant, with former winners & go back to the old format of 15 semi finalists. Then they could do 7 & to 3 but this way it will give 5 more girls a chance. Not that they would listen to me but if they would after watching 30 yrs. what a show it would be.
