Lia of USA: I've been a Miss Universe pageant fan since I was 12 years old and I've never seen a more disorganized, superficial, anticlimactic pageant. The Top 10 were a joke. I completely lost interest after they were announced and only watched the rest of the show because that's what I've done every May for the past 11 years. Misses South Africa, Estonia & Canada had no place in the the semi's. I thought Miss Canada looked disgusting. Those implants were absolutely horrible. What a disgrace. Don't even get me started about Miss USA. She had Carl Lewis's face. Misses Mexico, Philippines and Germany were in my opinion not only more beautiful but from reading their bios I just wish that they would have been given a chance. You could just see that whenever Miss Mexico was on stage/camera she stood out. The lack of an interview portion was a HUGE mistake. I know that in years past one of my favorite parts was hearing from all 10 of the semifinalists and getting a sense for their personalities. In other words, this year I couldn't feel any kind of "connection" to any of the girls until the pageant was more or less already decided in the judges minds. How can they say that they are looking for a complete woman when they cut half of them before they even hear them speak? BTW -- The Miss Universe Organization needs to really screen their interpreters before they let them translate for these women. The translator last night was absolutely horrible. She completely distorted the ladies' answers. I will say that of the 5 finalists Miss India was the obvious choice, but I sincerely doubt that she was the best girl present that night. Congratulations to Lara anyway. I guess she did it....(or maybe the organizers did it for her)
Geovin of USA: This years pageant was not as fun to watch as last years. I did like the opening number. I am not a big fan of Sindad and for the first time his preformances did not annoy me. Ali Landry looked beautiful, stunning. I loved what Ali Wore as she was introduced. Of my ten picks only three made the cut USA, India and Colombia. I would have loved to have seen Mexico, Singapore and the Phillippines in the top ten. I really enjoyed the Swimsuit competition mainly because of the music of Elvis Crespo. India was outstanding. The evening gown, I loved Colombia and India. As for interview portion, this was a nice change, I found India to be the best. Overall, the pageant was okay. I am glad that Ali and Julie did not ramble about things such as toupee tape and butt spray. I actually liked that the both of them were not sitting at a desk critiquing the delegates as they have in the past. Muple was beautiful. She was an outstanding Miss Universe. Best wishes to Muple and Lara.
Chris Oliver of USA: I would like to commend the organizers of Miss Universe 2000...It was great!!! But there were really some surprises from the very beginning. There are other delegates that are prettier, smarter, more articulate...in short more deserving than those who made it to the TOP 10. First on the list is Miss Philippines. She's so gorgeous with perfect tan and based on her interview, she's witty.. Miss Puerto Rico, is of course one of the favorites among the Latin delegates...but how come they didn't even make it to the Top 10? Judges what happened?
Jessie Lopez of Canada: Unlike the previous Miss Universe Pageants this one was not the best. They should've had put the Interview competition in the beginning instead of around the end of the pageant. And after the top 3 were announced they got rid of the sashes. They should've leave the sashes on to indicate what country they're from. Overall it was not as impressing as I thought it was. I absolutely do not like the comments about contestants like my favorite Miss Canada. She's not ugly. She's so beautiful she deserved being in top 10. Besides she was one of my picks and I'm very happy she made it. I'm truly disappointed that Miss Philippines didn't made it. I heard she won best in swimsuit at the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant. She too was beautiful. I was hoping she was in it but was not. If Canada would have gotten rid of the nerves while doing her interview she would make it to the top 3. Oh well maybe next year. I think the Miss Universe organization should put the interviews back to the beginning to know the contestants. Congratulations to the new Miss Universe, Lara Dutta.
Charles Richard Sabga of Trinidad & Tobago: I've been a huge fan of Miss Universe for the 21 years of my life! It's in-bred in our family!! In my humble opinion, tonights show in Cyprus was a let-down, a huge one. First of all, I am satisfied that Miss India won the title, Lara cetainly deserved it - she was my pick! However...I am of the opinion that: The opening scene was too melancholy and lacked vibrance; The stage lookked rather disorganised, The narrator sounded like a horror-house employee, Didn't appreciate/ understand the reasons for the acrobats, in relation to Cyprus. As for the 10, I was rather suprised to see Canada and South Africa in there, but was satisfied to see France, one of my favourites. It's a pity that she used those Boeing 747 Gloves!. Where was : Miss Phillipines? Miss Aruba? Even my Heidi Rostant of T & T could've been in there. I feel sorry for Heidi and her roomate (Miss Puerto Rico), they'll be packing heir bags in sorrow..oh well. The truth is, I miss the 'real' Miss Universe Pageant... I miss Bob Barker, I miss the 'little sisters', I miss the whole concept of the Miss Universe Pageant that I once knew.
Andresito of Philippines: Its seems that Asian & Carribean beauties were discriminated this year. I am very disappointed that Philippines, Aruba, Puerto Rico & Mexico were not in the 10 semifinalist. I reviewed their interviews and they gave very good anwers. Maybe the judges in the preliminaries were most europeans. Despite of this, Asian beauties still shines. India is my personal choice in the 10 semifinalist-Congratulations! Lara Dutta. To Nina Ricci (Miss Philippines 2000) you`re still Miss Universe to me-congratulations! And to you Jamil, great job, keep-up the good work!
A1FUTURO: As a devoted pageant fan, I was disappointed. I miss them announcing the contestants by name in addition to country. Actually, I wish they would go back to the delegates announcing their name and country. This allowed the viewer to gain some sense of familiarity with all of the contestants. Also, what sense does it make to judge the delegates only on swimsuit and gown? These women are expected to be beautiful, but, of course, it is a pageant. They are also constantly trying to stress that they are intelligent, but this competition completely denied 5 out of the 10 women any chance to show that they were intelligent. Are we judging them, solely, on the how intelligently they picked a gown and wore a swimsuit? They mentioned, as they always do, that the delegates came from "the four corners of the world". Well, I want the "four corners" to be fully represented (i.e., Dialogue with the representatives). Contrary to what I have said thus far, I did appreciate how they introduced the delegates after the announcement of the top 10. However, this was not a sufficient replacement for an interview. Basically, I have been surfing the web for months to garner as much info on the delegates, but I am more interested in seeing how they interact via television. I feel cheated.
Mike of USA: This Miss Universe Pageant was wierd! I don't mind so much who won because lets face it. In the last two categorys there was no one who could match her speaking ability. However, how she arrived in that top 5 is another story. They gave her 1st in Swimsuit! What was that all about? She should have placed 6th in that category and 6th in evening gown. It was very obvious right from the first category this crown was hers. Also, what was Estonia, Canada, and South Africa doing in top ten? I will never say that Estonia truly beat our Philippines, Mexico, or Aruba to get into top ten. I heard she worked the media everyday prior to the finals. Canada I just don't get and that swimsuit score, that was ridiculous. I guess those implants were a 9.99. South Africa herself acted like she didn't know where to go on that stage. Did anyone else notice that? Not gonna say anything about her hips. To me this Pageant ended up being very anticlimatic. I don't know if any of you are aware of this, but go take a look at India's bio she submited a week ago. Look at the question about her feelings on what pageants can do for a woman. Remember in her final question on stage how she used the very articulate word "foray"?. She didn't make that up on stage as it appeared. That same exact answer along with the word " foray" was in her bio. I was kind of disappointed to see that. Again, I will say that in the end, she won because of her articulation and stage pressence although I do feel she didn't deserve the high scores in presentation to get her into top 5. If she hadn't been given entrance into top 5 it would have been Venezuela's all the way. I adored her attempt at speaking english and she came scross as being real. No big words just down to earth with a sexy cute kind of thing. Spain was adorable! As for my home town girl, USA, well, for as much as I was routing for her prior to the finals I was a little disappointed in her performance. Her poising to me seemed very plastic and that interview was sooo dry!.
Shanella James of St. Maarten: Congratulations to Miss India. But I must say I was not impress with the way I saw the show on T.V. We did not see the beauty of the other 69 girls in their evening gowns. One thing I would like to know is how the judging of this show goes. I also must congratulate Miss Saint Maarten even though she did not place she was great. I would like to congratulate all the girls all were winners expecially the top tens and the finalist Miss India you were great congratulations
Dina Talaman of Cyprus: I am not satisfied the way Miss Universe 2000 was organized. The presentation in the preliminary show was not in a good order it was so quick, it seems that the girls were on the parade. Never let them to speak to introduce their name and Nationality. But the final telecast was spectacular the introduction show. I was disappointed that the Philippines did not get to the top ten. I think she is the best compare with Canada and South Africa even the Miss USA is not my favorite. India was really impressive I have no doubt on her.
Sujay Prabhu of India: I was disappointed. Although nobody could be more happy than me on Miss India's victory, that magical feeling generally associated with the pageant was not there. The Parade of nations was a disaster, where the contestants did not even utter a single word. I also felt that Miss Phillipines and Mexico should've been semifinalists in place of Miss France and Miss South Africa. As for Lara, well what can I say? After winning the Miss India competition, she was very outspoken in the press and chat shows about her prediction that she would go on and win Miss Universe. I thought that such kind of over-confidence was not good and would not get her the crown. But she proved me wrong. And as you can see Indians learn from thier mistakes! While Gul was placed 10th last year, Lara went on to win the swimsuit competition this year. Her evening gown was not very good and was deservedly placed 4th. This was followed by a good performance in the interview (4 out of the 7 judges gave her 9.99!. Wow, she must created a record for the highest score ever!). Her final answer was far too artificial and rehearsed. But I guess it was better than the answers given by Miss Spain and Miss Venezuela, and so she won. Anyway I am happy for Lara. She won thanks to loads of self confidence and also a bit of luck! By the way this is the second time that Miss India is holding both the Miss Universe and Miss World titles at the same time.
Tony Dulay: Miss India deserved the crown. she is great! 4 out of my 10 top ten picks made it. Overall nice pageant held in Mediterranean. Very exotic. Thank you very much...your website is great!.
Jamie Cummings of USA: Miss India is a nice looking and talented. But among the other contestants, I really like Venezuela, she was the best and second is Miss Colombia. She has a perfect face that I ever seen in my life, perfect!
Fra of Italy: Nobody here in Italy - and in most Europe - could see the show because, believe it or not, it has never been broadcasted around here. What my comments could be? I just think this is so ridiculous and unfair. I hope i won't have to complain again next year. Good Luck to Lara. I know she'll be a great Miss Universe.
Vaughn Davis Bornet of USA: To me, it is incomprehensible that, given 79 of the most beautiful, and shapely, and well gowned women in the world, any beauty pageant thinks it needs acrobats and rock singers and wild lighting and weird staging to carry the day and keep the audience. We deplore the fact that the Pageant didn't bother to show more than a glimpse of several of the national gowns. These were symbolic of the various nations represented. They required vast expenditures of time and money. They symbolize the idea of internationalism. Yet all that was wasted on just those present at the event. Some day, it might be instructive to group the contestants, not alphabetically, but by region and/or continent. All kinds of instructive things might emerge. We felt that the East Asian girls had a right to a judge. And there were too few judges. And one graded far too low. Just what was his vision of what the girls were supposed to be? The best thing an MC can do is just get out of the way. This one wasn't bad. I think last year's winner deserves a longer time to tell of her year; and a Pageant executive owes it to her to tell some of the fine things she did. Finally, I have never understood why the Pageants give the home viewers so short and so indifferent a chance to inspect the final winner. Closeups, a remark or two, a chance to finally inspect and judge once again the Winner would be a service. Overall, the camera work and/or cutting in events like this one has become very hard on the eyes. The focus and lighting changes every second or two; noise has taken over; and one tends to turn away in irritation. Maybe the very young can take this; older generations can't and shouldn't have to.
Justin Fernandes of India: Well! I am sooooo happy that Lara Dutta, Miss India 2000 has won the 49th Miss Universe pageant!! I knew it from the beginning on 15th January when Lara won the Femina Miss India 2000 contest. She had the charm, the style, the looks and the poise. I, being an Indian myself, truly believe that Lara was one of the best Miss Indias in the decade. Her crimson gown perfectly matched her personality and it should too, after all,it was designed by Hemant Trivedi-one of the best fashion designers in India. India's gown and her personality both dazzled on the stage. She is a perfect Miss Universe. Miss Venezuela had also did a great job, but if she could have polished her English, she would have won. But yet being Miss Universe 2000 1st Runner up isnt bad either. Miss Spain was okay. She spoke well but not so confidently. Miss USA was popular but she didnt make it to the top 3,I dont think she deserved to be in the top 3 anyway. The stage was super!! Sinbad was excellent! I loved Miss India's and Miss Venezuela's gown. But I felt sad for Aruba when she didnt make it to the Top 10. Even for Miss South Africa when she didnt make it to the top 5. Almost all the contestants looked great in the opening number. The judges have done a great job. No partiality was done. The deserving one's won! I think Lara has charming beauty and a sharp mind to match with!! She'll definitely make a Miss Universe to be remembered. And I bet on it!! WAY TO GO, LARA!!
Darlene of USA: Excuse me, what happened to Miss USA? Who dressed her and what happened to her hair? She was a shinning young lady in the Miss USA Pageant. Perhaps she did not want the Universe title. Knowing her background, she should have place higher. I did not like her gown. Wrong color for her. Does anyone else agree. Love your site!
Romeo A. Escobar: My personal favorites did not make the top ten so that was very sad. I'm glad India won. I'm a big fan of this beauty pageant i Watch it every year but I preferred it last year 99 when the delegates all came out in their countries native coustumes, and this year they didn't even say the delegates names. I was hoping Mauritius and Angola would make it to the top 10, because they were my favorites.
Mike of USA: When the top 10 was announced, I stopped watching the Miss Universe Pageant. I can't believe that some of the semi-finalists like Miss Canada and South Africa were chosen. They are "ugly" in my opinion. I get really angry that the majority of these women have fair skin and blond or light colored hair. Only India is Asian and Canada is half Asian. I would have loved to see more Oriental like Miss Philippines who I believe wass one of the favorites. The judges are also predominantly Caucasian which is indicative or reflective of the chosen semi-finals. I can't believe it but I am proud that Miss India won without watching the entire pageant.
Andrew of USA: In my opinion this pageant was below it's usual standards. It did not seem to focus on the delegates personalities at all. The format of not interviewing all ten finalists was a bad move. It was clearly a disadvantage for the women who did not make the top five.I wish we could have met the rest of them especially Miss Estonia. She really had a presence and probally would have made it known. Miss Venezuela was striking and Miss Canada was a doll. The producers must remember that the contestants are the "stars" of the show , so....they should not cut time on them and fill it with "fluff" as they did. Sinbad was good and Miss Universe 1999 was tops. The entertainment was good as well. Ali and Julie seemed toned down some. Over all though, by not letting the girls introduce themselve's and cutting down on interviews took too much away from this years pageant. Maybe next year it will be a complete mime show.....P.S... your site is really great!!!.
