The Story of Baybee Ayleeyin
Chapter 3
This Is Fun At The Zoo
"I haven't been to the zoo in a long time!" Darla said, holding Baybee Ayleeyin by the hand. His big, black eyes seemed even more wide open as he looked at the monkeys in the cage. He started to pull Darla towards the monkey cage to get a better look. He started to chatter a sort of baby talk, that we had not heard before. He seemed to be telling or asking Darla something about the monkeys. She said, "I wish I knew what you were saying, little guy."
At that moment, the elephant across the way trumpeted loudly, lifting the trainer up on his knee. As the elephant held the trainer there, Baybee Ayleeyin ran off towards the elephant exhibit, climbed up on the big rock, next to the water fountain and watched.
"What are you doing, little guy?" I asked. "Errrangh!" Baybee Ayleeyin said, as if imitating the elephant's trumpet. "You're right, Baybee, that's what he said. That is an elephant." I explained, and pointed to the caged area, "Those are Monkeys." At that, Baybee Ayleeyin said, "Elephant, monkey."
Darla and I stood with our mouths open. The baby spoke. His voice was a little high-pitched. But the words were clear. Baybee Ayleeyin can talk. I guess we looked a sight. He began to giggle his contagious giggle. And we joined in, giggling with him.
"Are you hungry Baybee Ayleeyin?" Darla said. "Lets get some hot dogs and sodas." On our way to the concession stand, a pigeon landed on Baybee's shoulder. He was chatting with the bird in sounds we could not understand. The bird seemed to know exactly what this little rascal wanted. The bird went directly to a family picnicking in the grass. It landed on the man's hand and left a "dootie" on his thumb. I was glad to see the man had a sense of humor. He and his entire family were laughing about it.
Needless to say, Baybee Ayleeyin was giggling too. What a little rascal he is.

At the concession stand, I ordered three hot dogs, three sodas, and a bag of peanuts. Darla and I spread mustard and relish on our hot dogs and asked Baybee Ayleeyin what he would like on his hot dog. He said, "Mustard, please." He continued to amaze us, "Straw too, please." By now you would think we would know better than to be shocked by his abilities.
Before Darla and I could finish out lunch, Baybee Ayleeyin was running around with the other children, chasing pigeons and laughing. He certainly was having a good time. Just then we looked, and he had a pigeon in his hand and was talking to it. This made us nervous. Who was going to be a target this time? Not so
Baybee Ayleeyin brought the pigeon over to us, looked at the bag of peanuts we bought to feed the elephant, and said. "Please." With our nodding approval, he opened the bag and began feeding the pigeon. He had such a big smile on his little face. He must have known that he was doing something good.
By this time all the pigeons in the zoo must have heard that lunch was being served at the hot dog concession. It looked like 25 or 30 birds near Baybee Ayleeyin as he was feeding them. When he sat on the blanket, some of the birds were crawling on his legs and arms. It must have tickled. He began laughing again. He was having so much fun. All the children came around to be near him and have fun too. He gave peanuts to the other children so they could feed pigeons too. It was such a pleasure to see so many having so much fun.
