Walking around on a late - summer day
I watched as a blind man made his way
He seemed to know where he wanted to go
Yet somehow he looked astray
I spoke with a girl from the East-end
Who looked as though she needed a friend
Time went by , and I had to leave
I found it rather hard to believe
When as I walked off , I again saw the blind man
Now carrying an engagement ring in his right hand
His face was pale and as gray as the sky
But his eyes were bold with determination
And he looked as though he just might die
If he did not reach his destination
As he passed by he turned and said :
"Sir , I know the thoughts in your head
I may be blind , but I'm not yet dead
I don't need your mercy
Don't have pity for me
I may be blind , but still I can see
That alone is not the way to be"
"So before the reaper takes my life
I'll drink to get a lil' buzzzz
Then I'll try to make that girl my wife
-Loneliness hurts more than rejection does-"
"So , I don't need your mercy
Don't have pity for me
I may be blind , but still I can see
That no living man is ever truly free
Of this world's cruel , harsh , reality" |
