No Mercy Questions and Answers
Credit Given To: N64 Code Center

This week I have a lengthy Q&A for you all. I'll try not to repeat too many questions, but I have so many to wade through that I will probably over look something. The game is not complete at this time and much information is still being kept under wraps. Nonetheless, I will do my best to give you what's known, what's expected, and what might be, all while making clear which answers are which. Enjoy!

Q: Will the videos be in full stream? And will the controls be similar to Wrestlemania 2000?
A: The videos will be similar to how they appeared in WM2K. The controls will be almost identical to 2K as well. The only difference will be the new features such as climbing onto the table and using the ladder.

Q: Will The Rock take off the elbow pad while doing the Peolpe's Elbow?
A: Nope, the elbow pad stays on once again.

Q: Will HHH come out with Stephanie
A: AKI will have characters come out with who they're with as up to date as a month and a half from now. Also, it is unknown at this time if managers can be edited or changed without cloning the wrestler first, as was the case in WM2K.

Q: Will Jeff Hardy do a senton bomb off the ladder?
A: Moves off the ladder are still in limbo. It is likely that there will at least be one move, such as the elbow drop from the cage. What would be better is if wrestlers (i.e. Jeff Hardy) could do their top rope moves from the ladder. Personally, I expect this to be included. AKI is also very dedicated to having all the latest moves, so expect a more accurate version of Jeff's "Swanton Bomb."

Q: What arenas will be in No Mercy?
A: All of the arenas from WM2K as well as the Smackdown arena will be included and as up to date as possible. It was also announced that there will be "5 new arenas." While speculation, some feel that these will be WWF's "minor" PPVs such as Judgment Day, Fully Loaded, and No Mercy itself. The only catch here is that there are 7 "minor" PPVs, not 5. Further speculation has these arenas being hidden in the game, only to be available at the 'Smackdown Mall,' which I have not previously covered. The Smackdown Mall is where gamers can "buy" new things such as additional Create-A-Wrestler (CAW) items or, perhaps, new arenas. Gamers earn "money" for the store by completing certain aspects of the game or through the Gameboy Transfer Pak and the related WWF Gameboy games.

Q: In WWF No Mercy will there be an inferno match? I was also wondering about a create a match; will that be part of the game too?
A: There will be no inferno match in No mercy. There won't be create-a-match either, but you can set up matches to watch, referee, or take part in. You can also create wrestlers, but not title belts. Create-a-PPV will be included once again as well.

Q: Hey. Could you please give me a complete list of the roster. From anyone definitely in the game to anyone you hope will be in the game.
A: The list of announced wrestlers is currently very small, but with over 70 planned, you can let your imagination wander. Personally, I expect everyone from The Rock to Lita.

Q: Can you create women this time?
A: That's a very good question, and one that has not been answered officially. My guess would be that since CAW has been expanded so much, it's only right that the women get the same treatment as the men this time around. When an official statement is made on this, I will let you guys know.

Q: Will the "GoodFather" come out with Steven Richard's and Bull Buchanon, or the hos? And will your created wrestler be able to comeout with more than one person?
A: The Goodfather should very well have his Right To Censor gimmick in the game, as AKI is always updating the roster until the last minute. Only one manager will accompany wrestlers to the ring as the old "4 men on screen at once" still applies.

Q: I've been wondering if tag teams will come out together, it would also be nice to be able to make tag teams. Another thing I miss is the handicapped match, I know there's a three way match, but it's just not the same as trying to beat two guys at once on hard, ya know what i mean?
A: Tag teams will now come out together. I assume they will come out to the first player's theme and video, but that isn't for certain. Deciding tag team names is still probably out of the equation, but being that teams come to the ring together, it's less of an issue. Handicap matches aren't currently included, as much as they should be.

Q: Can you lay someone on a table and then jump off the ladder on them?!
A: If a person can be laid out on the table, though, it is highly feasible that an off-the-ladder move will connect. More has to be released on the exact workings of the ladder and table before we can say for sure, though.

Q: Will the sound and videos be better quality?
A: The sound and video will not be much improved, if at all.

Q: If someone has a title and it is being fought for can it be used as a weapon?
A: No, it will be worn to the ring or suspended above the ladder, but won't be usable as a weapon.

Q: You said that the Dudleys can do the 3D,right? But you don't know about the breaking table, right? Well I want to know if the table can be broken, will it be possible to 3D your oppent through the table?
A: I believe that *if* the table is breakable, it will be breakable by moves done on the table, and possibly by high flying moves that land on someone who is on the table. If that's the case, then the 3D will break the table if there is room for all three wrestlers involved to be standing on the table at once. This is just speculation.

Q: Can you throw people off the ten foot stage?
A: It is known that in the Japanese Virtual Pro Wrestling 2, AKI included this as an option. It is also known that the animation for climbing onto the stage is being used in No Mercy for climbing onto the table. Since the animations are going to be in No Mercy, it is a definite possibility.

Q: I have heard of a Ladder Match, Table Match, 2 on 1, 3 on 1, and even an Inferno Match. Please share your list of all the matches that will be included, or very well might be when the game is fully developed.
A: No: Inferno, Table, 2 on 1, 3 on 1
Yes: Ladder, Singles, Tag, Battle Royal, Cage, Triple Threat, Guest Referee, Survivor (Gauntlet match against 100 wrestlers [rumored]), Pay Per View, Smackdown Mall (used to unlock secrets)

Q: When does this game come out?
A: It's still a while away, and I've heard a few dates being thrown around. Nov. 15, Nov. 17, and Nov. 22 are the current guesses. Right now I would go with Nov. 17. As always, release dates are subject to change right to the end.

Q: What weapons will be available?
A: Look for a chair, table half, trash can, barbed wire bat, baseball bat, and basically everything from the previous games except for maybe the guitar. No new weapons have been announced so far.

Q: When THQ says there is backstage wrestling do they mean on the stage or outside in parking lots and stuff like that?
A: So far there has been no elaboration. All that was mentioned were the two words, "backstage brawling." It is my guess that they mean going back through the entrance. After that, who knows?

Q: Will you be able to take your own created wrestlers from WM2K and put them in No Mercy?
A: No.

Q: Are the entrances more detailed than WM2K?
A: Unknown, but since they include Titan Trons, they definitely won't be any worse. Also, nothing has been mentioned as to whether Chris Jericho's entrance has been updated. It's possible since he was a last minute addition last time, and now they've had more time to work with him. We will have to wait for more on that to say for sure, though.

Q: Will there be a ref always in the ring?
A: No, except for special guest referees.

Q: Will the Guest Ref be able to DQ someone who uses a weapon in a NON No-DQ Match?
A: There has been no mention for a DQ option for the ref, but remember there's no way to be disqualified during normal gameplay, so that might be a hint. So far, we know you can control the pin count and the ring out count. Personally, I hope you can say a wrestler submitted even if he didn't. That would be fun. :)

Q: What Music will the Undertaker come out to if No Mercy can't use Kid Rocks American Bad Ass song?
A: The latest word is that he will come out to his previous music which I believe was the gothic Ministry music. It's my least favorite entrance music for him, so I hope they pick another one before they finalize.

Q: Is the peoples elbow going to be the Rock's finisher, and if so will it look better than it does on WM2000?
A: It won't be a finisher, but it will be in the game. AKI is enhancing some of the animations, but the Rock still doesn't take off his elbow pad.

Q: Will there be a Hell in a Cell match since there is no table match?
A: Nope, they tried Hell in a Cell, but it slowed the game down so much that it wasn't worth it. You'll have to catch Smackdown 2 on PSX for HITC, or wait for the next generation of AKI games.

Q: Will you be able to go out in the crowd and fight? When you climb to the top of the cage in a cage match can you perform moves off of it? And in the Royal Rumble, can you have more than 4 people in the ring at once?
A: You cannot fight in the crowd. It is unknown if you can do moves from atop the cage at this moment. The elbow from WM2K will be included, though. Only four people are allowed on screen at any given moment.

Q: Is there really going to be a guest referee match, and if so do you have to be the ref?
A: There is a guest referee match, and at this point, it looks like you have to be the referee. This might not be the case in the end, however.

Q: How will u win a Ladder match will be like a title or an object or something?
A: If a title is up for grabs, the belt will be above the ladder. If not, an object related to the participants will be up there, for example, Al Snow's Head will probably be suspended above the ladder when he is fighting. Wow, that must be a really morbid thought for those of you who don't follow wrestling on television.

Q: Will Mick Foley be the commissioner or not?
A: If Mick Foley is in the game, expect to see his Comissioner t-shirt as well. AKI is very good about keeping a current and updated roster. Afterall, they even put guys like Sonny Onoo in WCW/nWo Revenge.

Q: Are the TitanTron videos going to be squared like in W2000 or more clear such as the ones in Smackdown? Will the music be as realistic as the real lfe music or will it be heard like in W2000?
A: Both videos and music shouldn't improve much over last year's WM2K effort. The N64 cartridge doesn't allow for FMV and CD Quality video like you could get on a PSX.

Q: Can u execute triple team moves in a mach that involves four wrestlers?
A: This is not planned for the game, no.

Q: When does No Mercy come out on Gameboy?
A: No Mercy for N64 is currently scheduled for around Nov. 17. No Mercy for Gameboy Color is currently just scheduled for November. As always, release dates are subject to change as the games near completion and production.

Q: Can you go farther up the entrance ramp?
A: Yes. You can go all the way to the stage, and perhaps further since THQ has promised "backstage brawling."

Q: I have a question regarding the special guest referee. Are they going to be in the carrer mode, and if they are will another human be able to control them?
A: Career mode is one player, but because they want a more storyline driven career mode, you can expect to have guest referee matches occur on occasion. There are different career modes available for each of the different titles, by the way.

Q: Will players come to the ring with their belts?
A: Yes, and if they own more than one they will wear them accross their shoulders, etc.

Q: Will there be a create-a-belt feature in No Mercy like there was in Wrestlemania 2000?
A: Unfortunately, no. This was a great feature, but hopefully they have enough real belts included to make up for it.

Q: I heard that steel steps will be in the game. I was wondering if you can Irish Whip people into the steps.
A: Steps have not been added to the arenas, but are still available through the crowd as any other weapon.

Q: Can you pull out another ladder if one breaks?
A: There is only one ladder, and they won't get knocked around bad enough to break. Good idea, though.

Q: Will Jerry and Jim come to ringside?
A: There will not be commentators at ringside, but they might make a cameo like they did in WM2K.

Q: Can you have a finishing move on the ground? Example Walls of Jericho?
A: Nope, it will be a normal ground move. You can have a finisher be a takedown that goes directly into the ground submission, though.

Q: Will the managers come out with their tag teams?
A: No, only four people can be on screen for a match due to system limitations, and this would ruin it.

Q: I was just wanting to know if you could bring a real table into the ring and put your opponents through it via powerbomb, or body splash.
A: There are no wooden tables or tables that can be brought into the ring. There will be an announcer's table at ringside, however, which AKI has promised will be "fully functional." No direct word on if it is breakable yet, though.

Q: Will there be a storyline style of play in career mode like the original?
A: Each belt has its own storyline and you become entangled in it depending on which belt you're going after.

Q: Can you interfere in other people's matches, instead of the computer always starting a rivalry with you?
A: Right now the only way to interfere in a match would be to be the special guest referee.

Q: Are the speeches more character oriented, like the Rock saying... "If ya smell what the rock is cooking!"
A: There will be a catch phrase system included in the game like there was in VPW2 in Japan. This means created wrestlers can each have a one-liner that will appear in a caption during a closeup at the end of the entrance. It is probable to assume, therefor, that such a system will be included for the in-game characters as well. By the way, in VPW2, the catchphrases only came up if a certain button was pressed. This will likely be held over to No Mercy. The button was C-Left.

Q: Is it true when you drop a weapon it will stay on the ground instead of disappearing?
A: Yes. Up to four weapons can be on screen at once and at any time and you can switch current weapons for new ones from the crowd.

Q: Will you be able to have an "anywhere match" where you can start in the ring and end up in the parking lot or something like that?
A: If you put on the no-DQ feature, falls will count anywhere. It's unknown what kind of backstage areas there will be, though.

Q: Are they going to put Raven in No Mercy?
A: If he debuts in the WWF before development ends, which is a month or so from now, they will put in an updated version of Raven from WCW/nWo Revenge like they did with Jericho last year. Raven is coming to the WWF from ECW.

Q: Will there still be the detailed rafters if they are still going to have TitanTrons? Is the game going to need the expasion pack or will it just be like an extra option?
A: The rafters aren't detailed, but they're still up in the ceiling. Also, there is no expansion pak connection for No Mercy. The device didn't sell enough in places like Asia for AKI to think it was worth worrying over.

Q: Will there be tag team specials?
A: There will be tag team moves, but not tag team specials.

Q: Will there be past attire available, for example will they have Godfather's past attire in case he changes back from the Goodfather to Godfather due to angle changes. And also will Austin be in the game even though he is not currently wrestling?
A: Both of these are likely, but not confirmed. AKI often has older outfits for some of the wrestlers. If you remember, they put red-and-yellow Hulk Hogan in Revenge even though he was part of the nWo at the time. Other times, however, they do not. We'll have to wait and see how the costumes turn out. Nothing has been said about Steve Austin, as only a small list of wrestlers have been confirmed so far. I would expect him to be included, though.

Q: Is there a Last Man Standing match?
A: No, but you can turn on only KOs and that would suffice.

Q: Will there be foldable chairs at the anouncer tables?
A: The chairs that you grab from the crowd are the same as in past games, there won't be any set up to grab.

Q: In Wrestlemania the result of a match would be something like Tori beating the Big Show. Will this happen in No Mercy or will the odds be stacked against the lower skilled person?
A: This will still be possible.

Q: In a Royal Rumble, will a person enter the ring every 90 seconds?
A: They will enter whenever one of the four men in the ring is eliminated, just like in WM2K.

Q: Is it true that only for people can appear on the screen at a time. If so, why can more than 4 people be on a game at a time in other games?
A: For this game, the way it is engineered, more than four wrestlers would cause unplayable slow-down. Other games, especially 2D games or games on faster systems, don't have this problem.

Q: Will wrestlers bleed?
A: Yes, there is some bleeding in the game. The blood stays on the wrestler's face.

Q: Can you hear people talk like into the microphone for interviews?
A: There is no voice acting in the game, but some theme songs will have lyrics.

Q: Can the Rock do the eyebrow instead of alyways having it up like in WM2K?
A: The faces won't change during the match. There might be special instances during cutscenes like in the WM2K intro when the rock actually lifted his eyebrow, but that's it.

Q: Will there be modes you can pick from such as a First Blood match or I Quit match?
A: Not specifically, but you can turn off all ways of winning except for First Blood or Submission, so yes.

Q: Can you throw people off the 10 foot stage?
A: The animations are in the game, and it was an option in the Japanese prequel to the game, so it's possible that they will include this in the final version.

Q: Can you see the fireworks before raw or others?
A: This is not known, but you can look forward to something as this was in WM2K, too.

Q: Will the Hardys be able to do their double team moves?
A: It's unknown how many double teams will be in, but as for a Twist of Fate followed by a Swanton, I'm sure with some careful timing you could pull that off.

Q: When fighting in the backstage area in two player mode can a third person interfere back there also?
A: Unknown, but interesting question. Again, all that's been mentioned so far are the words "backstage brawling."

Q: When playing the special guest refere mode can you go backstage with the ref?
A: Most likely, it'd be pathetic to sit in the ring as the wrestlers went to the back, but again we know next to nothing about the "backstage brawling."

That's it for today's update, and thanks for the questions. We'll post more as soon as it becomes available!
