“Never mind, Samurai can see you now,” she corrected herself. Katie
and I gulped. “But first, you need to fill out this form.” She handed us each a
clipboard with a paper on it and a pen. “Oh, I almost forgot to give you your
first machine kits.” She lifted up two black cases. “You can use the five
machines inside these kits to teach your pokemon new moves.
“Cool,” I said as Katie and I each took a kit, and sat down to fill out
our forms. Name: Matt Ketchum. Pokemon: Farfetch’d, Bulbasaur, and
Scyther. Age: 10. Hometown: Pallet. Number of Badges: 0..... Well, that’s
depressing. I finished the form and brought it up to the desk. Katie still
wasn’t finished, so I decided to check out my machine kit. I opened the kit to
see five little cushions and a piece of paper with writing on it. I picked up the
piece of paper and read it. This is Machine Kit #1. It contains five color
coded cushion-like machines that can be used to teach pokemon new moves.
Simply place the pokeball face down in the cushion’s crevice, and the attack
will be absorbed from the cushion, to the pokeball, to the pokemon. This kit
consists of: Red- Mega Punch, Blue- Razor Wind, Yellow- Sword’s Dance,
Purple- Whirlwind, and Green- Cut. All of the attacks above can only be
taught to a pokemon once, except Cut which can be taught again and again.
P.S.- Remember to analyze each machine with your pokedex, to make sure
that your pokemon can learn that machine’s specific attack.
“Here you go ‘mam,” I heard Katie say. I looked up from the paper to
see Katie, standing next to me, handing in her clipboard, form, and pen to the
secretary.
“Who would like to go first?” the secretary asked.
“I would!” Katie exclaimed before I could even open my mouth.
“That’s not fair!” I protested. “You went first against Mike!”
“I know, and I’m going to go first against Samurai!” Katie answered.
And with that, Katie picked up her knapsack, and stormed off through the
double doors that led to the gym. I started to go after her, but was stopped by
the secretary.
“And where do you think that you are going?” the secretary asked.
“To go watch my friend battle Samurai,” I answered.
“I’m sorry, but trainers aren’t aloud to watch battles involving gym
leaders until after that trainer has battled that gym leader,” she apologized. With a sigh, I walked over to my chair and sat back down. I flipped open my
pokedex, and made it scan the machines.
“Pokedex, please tell me which of my pokemon are compatible
with these machines,” I ordered.
“Mega Punch is not compatible with any of your pokemon. Farfetch’d
and Scyther already know Sword’s Dance, while Bulbasaur is not compatible
with Sword’s Dance. Farfetch’d is the only one of your pokemon that is
compatible with both Whirlwind and Razor Wind. All of your pokemon are
compatible with Cut,” my pokedex answered. I took out the blue and green
machines as well as Farfetch’d and Bulbasaur’s pokeballs. I placed
Farfetch’d’s pokeball face down on the blue cushion, and Bulbasaur’s
pokeball face down on the green one.
“I wonder how long it takes?” I thought out loud. My question was
answered for me when the two pokeballs started shaking violently in the
cushions. Then, all of a sudden, they stopped.
“They’re done,” I heard the secretary say from behind me. I turned
around to see that she had been watching me the whole time. I turned back
around and switched Bulbasaur’s pokeball with Scyther’s. Then I switched
the blue cushion under Farfetch’d for the purple one. While Farfetch’d and
Scyther’s pokeballs were shaking, I called out Bulbasaur.
“Bulba-bulba-bulbasaur!” Bulbasaur cried as he emerged from his
pokeball for the first time. I took the two rare candies out of my pocket.
“Hi Bulbasaur. I’m your new trainer, Matt Ketchum. Bulbasaur,
would you like two rare candies?” I asked him.
“Saur!” Bulbasaur answered. I unwrapped the candies and gave them
to Bulbasaur. He chomped them down hungrily.
“Bulbasaur, come back now. You’ll get to battle soon,” I said as I
held out Bulbasaur’s pokeball, the red beam of light shot out, hit Bulbasaur,
and returned him to his pokeball. I hooked his pokeball, along with
Scyther’s, back on my belt. I picked up the blue and purple cushions, and
tossed them into the trash. I then took Farfetch’d’s pokeball and placed it on
the green cushion, so that Farfetch’d could learn her last move of the day.
When she was finished, I returned her pokeball to my belt, and the green
cushion to my backpack.
“I WON!” I heard a girl scream. I turned my head just in time to see
Katie burst through the double doors shouting, “I WON! I WON!” She
spotted me and ran over to where I was standing. “Matt, I won! I won my
first badge!”
“That’s great Katie!” I congratulated.
“I know, I’m still in shock! It was such a tough match! He sent out
Metapod, while I sent out Poliwag. All Metapod would do was Tackle or
Harden. Poliwag was totally kicking Metapod’s butt! Then, when Metapod
was on the verge of fainting, I told Poliwag to finish her off with his bubble
attack. When Samurai heard that, he told Metapod to use String Shot.
Before Poliwag could use his bubble attack, Metapod string shot Poliwag’s
mouth shut. Poor Poliwag was just about helpless. Then, Metapod
completely finished his string shot attack, leaving Poliwag in a “cocoon”, so I
had to call him back. I sent Ponyta out, and she finished off Metapod with
just one Stomp. Samurai then sent out Pinsir, who was one scary-lookin’
pokemon! I just told Ponyta to use Flamethrower, Ember, and Tail Whip
again and again until Pinsir fain.....,” Katie told me.
“Mr. Ketchum, Samurai is ready to see you now,” the secretary
interrupted.
“Wish me luck,” I said to Katie.
“Good luck,” Katie responded. I walked over to the double doors, and
with a deep breath, I opened the double doors, and walked into the gym. “Oh!” Samurai cried. “She’s evolving!” When I heard this, I looked
up just in time to see Butterfree fly out of the shell that had just been
Metapod.
“Oh!” I said in wonder.
“Butterfree, use your Sleep Powder on Scyther!” Samurai shouted.
“Freeeee-e-e!” Butterfree agreed as she released a shiny blue powder
from her wings over Scyther. Scyther fell right to sleep.
“Scyther return!” I said angrily as the red beam pulled Scyther back
into his pokeball. “Bulbasaur, finish Butterfree off!”
“Saur!” Bulbasaur agreed as he emerged from his pokeball, ready for
action.
“Butterfree, it’s time you used your Stun Spore!” Samurai shouted.
“Free!” Butterfree replied in agreement. Butterfree released dark
orange spores from her wings that landed on Bulbasaur.
“Ha!” I laughed. “You should know by know Samurai that spores and
powders, just don’t affect grass type pokemon!” His face got bright red.
“Bulbasaur, use your Razor Leaf to knock Butterfree out of the sky!”
“Bulbasaur!” Bulbasaur cried as he leaped into the air, letting hundreds
of razor sharp leaves emerge from the bulb on his back.
“Free-e-e-e!” Butterfree cried out as the leaves connected with her frail
body, leaving her bloody and bruised.
“Oh, Butterfree!” Samurai called out. “Butterfree, hang in there, use
your tackle attack!” Butterfree flew down as fast as she could, and connected
her body with Bulbasaur’s forehead.
“Bulllll-ba!” Bulbasaur cried out in surprise and pain.
“Bulbasaur, finish Butterfree off with Vine Whip!” I shouted. Four
long vines shot out of Bulbasaur’s bulb, and wrapped themselves around
Butterfree.
“Freeeee!” Butterfree yelled out in surprise. Bulbasaur then started
slamming Butterfree against the floor over and over again!
“Butterfree, you did an excellent job!” Samurai comforted. “But you
need to come back now!” Samurai held out Butterfree’s pokeball, the red
light shot out, and pulled Butterfree back into her pokeball. “Pinsir, show
Matt here what you’ve got!”
“Siiiiirrrrr!” a monster called as it took shape from out of the pokeball.
“Holy cow!” I yelled when I saw Pinsir for the first time. It WAS a
monster. It looked like a giant stag beetle, but was ten times scarier than any
stag beetle that I’ve ever seen before. Katie was right, this is one
scary-lookin’ pokemon! Even Bulbasaur looked scared. “Bulbasaur, Vine
Whip!” Bulbasaur released the four vines from his bulb again. The vines
wrapped around Pinsir’s gigantic horns, and Bulbasaur pulled with all of his
strength, but Pinsir just stood there like nothing was happening. Then, Pinsir
flung his head back, tacking Bulbasaur with it, and slammed Bulbasaur into
the wall.
“Pinsir use your Vicegrip!” Samurai shouted. Pinsir lowered it’s head,
and ran straight at Bulbasaur. Pinsir picked Bulbasaur up with his two horns,
and started squeezing.
“Oh! Bulbasaur return!” I cried when I saw the expression on
Bulbasaur’s face..... pure pain! “Okay Farfetch’d! It’s all up to you!”
Farfetch’d flew out of her pokeball as it hit the ground.
“Fetch’d-far-far!” Farfetch’d cried as she flew through the air and landed
on the ground.
“Farfetch’d, get back in the air. That way Pinsir can’t get to you!” I
cried.
“Far!” Farfetch’d agreed.
“Siiiiirrrrr!” Pinsir growled angrily as he swiped at Farfetch’d as she
flew around him in the air.
“Far far far!” Farfetch’d laughed at Pinsir. I really like this pokemon, I
thought to myself.
“Farfetch’d, use your Whirlwind!” I shouted. Farfetch’d put her leek
in her mouth, then started flapping her wings wildly. Farfetch'd caused a
mini-tornado in the gym, that picked up Pinsir, and threw him across the room
on top of Samurai. Farfetch’d and I both started laughing.
“Get off me you stupid pokemon!” Samurai shouted at Pinsir. “You
must way a ton! As of now, you are officially on a diet! Pinsir return!”
Samurai called Pinsir back into his pokeball.
“Wait a second!” I thought out loud. “Samurai just returned Pinsir, and
Pinsir was his last pokemon, so that means..... I won.” I had just won my
first pokemon badge, and all I could do..... was stand there..... in shock.
