Get ready. Pokemon fever is about to hit an all-time high. It's time to Catch 'em All, all over again! The new games promise new worlds, new trainers and most important of all, new Pokemon! Let's take a closer look.
In this game you play as a brand new character, who may or may not be an older, more mature Ash. The discovery of at least 100 new Pokemon has spurred Pokemon trainers to become even more dedicated to the task of catching and training Pokemon. Team Rocket may make a comeback with a new leader to cause more trouble. The game will use the tried and true RPG turn-based battling system and the overhead Zelda-esque viewpoint. This time, however, there are lots of new features that will blow away the original.
First of all, time will pass in the game. Remember the overworld in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? As you ran through Hyrule Field, the sun slowly crossed the sky, setting in the horizon as the pale white moon came out in the night sky. Well, Pokemon Gold and Silver will do the same thing, except not as vividly as it's N64 cousin. The purpose is that certain Pokemon can only be found or caught at certain times in the day. For instance, you can only find Zubat in caves during the daylight hours, but once nighttime rolls around, the Zubat may emerge from the cave and attack you in an open field!
Another cool feature is the improved Pokedex II. The new 'Dex will handle all of your Pokemon data, plus you can use it to recieve radio transmissions, messages from Prof. Oak and other trainers, weather reports, tell what time it is and use a new item system to handle your items. Speaking of items, you won't be the only one using items on this journey. Now your own Pokemon can use items themselves! For instance, you can give your Pokemon a mallet that it can use to bonk the enemy Pokemon.
One feature players have been asking for is a breeding option, the option to make Pokemon have baby Pokemon! Their begging has paid off, because in this game, you have both male and female Pokemon. Two of the same species of Pokemon can make a Poke-Egg, which will hatch into a baby Pokemon. It is not known if you can cross breed to make new species of Pokemon, but stay tuned!
It is said that this game will have over 250 monsters (click here for a pic of some of the new Pokémon), and each having their own gender which means there would be a girl and a boy Pokémon! New Tricks and New Abilities! Brand-new Pokemon will learn brand-new tricks. It is said that over 200 tricks are there, and there also will be brand-new abilities. The screen images of battle are much improved. Also, the monsters will be more realistic, as they will be diurnal and nocturnal, meaning you'd actually have to wait for them to wake up at a certain time of day for them to fight. You can check Pokemon's pre-evolved status! For example, you can see the Clefable's former data when it was Clefairy in Red or Blue Versions. And some Pokemon may evolve in Gold and Silver even if they were thought to have been at their final evolution or Red and Blue Versions.
Since the Pokémon can be nocturnal or diurnal, means the game will have a clock, or timer, to keep track of this. Also, Nintendo may be planning for the game to be in Color. You can use the skateboard as a new traffic facility! In addition to bicycle by which you could move comfortably in Red and Blue Versions, you can use the skateboard to move fast and may be able to go unexpected place in Gold and Silver Version.
Also, there's a new version of Pikachu in the game. He is a nicely plump, BLUE Pikachu-looking creature, who is called Mariru, meaning Marine Blue. His American name is Pikablu. As said before, he will be plump, and that means he's plumper than Pikachu. He's made his appearence in the movie "Pikachu no Natsuyasumi" too. Also, the Pokedex will be upgraded and have some new functions.
Because the Pokémon in this new game would have a specific gender, Pokemon bears a child! All Pokemon that appear in Gold and Silver are classified into male and female, just as the case of Nidoran in Red and Blue. Pokemon can be crossbred and make a baby by laying 'Poke-Egg' if they are same species.
The main problem? The older versions of PokéMon, PokéMon Red, Green, Blue, and Pikachu will NOT be able to READ the data of the new monsters of Gold and Silver but Pokémon Red, Green, Blue and Pikachu would be able to SEND their monster data to the new version.
Ths graphics seem good and expect the game play to be even better. The planned release of this game would probably be around April '99 in Japan. Finally there has been an official released date slated for Pokémon Gold & Silver in the US. October 16, 2000 was mentioned in a Yahoo press release, and again in the latest Nintendo Power they mentioned October as when the games were to come out. |
