Cassie opened up to Nick as well because she believed that she can trust
him. He reminded her a little of her best male friend in the world-Jake.
Cassie also believed that Nick wouldn't judge her at all.
"I didn't have a good childhood either. My parents were very strict with
me, Miranda, my twin and Angela, my older sister. They would punish and
belittle us over every little thing that we did wrong. Nothing we did was
ever right, and we were told that constantly. My parents were so demanding
in what they expected from Miranda, Angela, and myself. If we weren't home
on time from school, a date, or anything else for that matter, we were
punished. Sometimes, my mom would withhold food from us-mostly me she
did that to. We never had any sleepovers or hung out at the mall. I was
lucky because I got to spend winter, spring, and summer vacations in
Bay City with my uncle Cass and that's where I met my best friend Vicky.
I grew up in Malibu, California, and I'm not happy to be in this state again.
Angela left home when she was 19-she went to London to dance. Two
years later, when Miranda and I turned 16, we moved there to dance
with Angela-we ran away from home. The farther away from our
parents, the better off we were. I attended college in London
as well as dancing so I didn't have much time to see London or
relax. Three and a half months ago, I gave up dancing professionally
because I was anorexic. I miss dancing with my sisters becaus dancing
was the only time that we felt free to express who we are.
After I was released from the hospital, I went to stay with my
grandfather, who was a member of the London House. He encouraged me
to join so I did. He died three weeks later of a heart attack and then
I moved here."
Walking back from the docks, Nick and Cassie continued talking.
"So you were a member of the London House. You worked with
Sloan-lucky you," Nick said with a smirk on his face.
"Yeah, I worked with Sloan. You don't like him-I could tell
by the way you said that I was lucky," Cassie said. |
