Piccolo

Also Known As: Piccoro. Piccolo is also known as Piccolo Jr. and Ma Jr. (pronounced/spelled "Maginia")
When the time came for a new God (Kami) of the earth to be chosen, an alien from the planet Namek took the post. In order to become God, he purged himself of evil, effectively splitting himself in two; his good half became Kami-sama while his bad half became Piccolo Daimaou (Demon-Lord Piccolo)--in effect, he became both God and the Devil. Piccolo Daimaou was killed by Gokuu, after a long period of the series, but not before spitting out his son/clone/reincarnation (no one's exactly sure how the Namekkuseijin reproduce), Piccolo Junior. This new Piccolo was also a "bad guy" for much of the series, until he reluctantly joined forces with his rival Gokuu to fight the Saiyajin warrior Radittsu. He later merged with another Namek-sei-jin, Nail, and then at last re-merged with his good alter-ego, Kami-sama. He is given Gohan to train after Goku's death. Soon after, he experiences paternal pride and affections for him, becoming sensei/mentor to Gohan and eventually forming a cool friendship with Gokuu. He likes worthy opponents and dislikes good music or sweet music. He is often to known meditating in solitude where there's nothing but quietness. Piccolo is the ultimate rebirth of cool; he spends much of his time meditating and surveying the world from the air, and although he rarely deigns to speak, he can communicate volumes with a cold-eyed glare. For all of his apparent coldness, he has a real bond with Gohan, and is truly fond of the boy. He is probably the most intelligent of the DB-senshi, and while there is some debate as to his real power, he is at least as powerful as a first-level Super Saiyajin; moreover, as a Namekseijin, he has other gifts, such as the ability to regenerate parts of himself. He is known, among other things, for the Makankou Sappo attack (a massive corkscrewing "ki" beam).

Physical---Piccolo is an antennaed, green-skinned, pointy-eared hobgoblin (sorry, slipped into Star Trek there for a minute ;) ). The tallest of the DB-senshi, he is usually seen brooding over them in his trademark turban, shoulder-gear, and flowing cape.

Kaioshin-sama
The East Kaioshin and the last of his kind. Kaioshin is at the next level of deities, in charge of the section of the universe containing the North Galaxy, and Earth. He is the last of the four Kaioshins (not counting the old Kaioshin released from the Zet sword), the others having died in a long-ago battle which imprisoned Majin Buu; he comes to Earth to enlist the fighters' aid against Babidi, who is trying to resurrect Majin Buu. A "young" immortal, he is powerful and quite wise, and very determined to prevent Buu's resurrection (although he fails). Although terrified of Buu, he fights valiantly, if in vain; Buu almost kills him immediately. Later he fuses with his assistant, Kibito, using the Potara earrings. Before this Fusion, Kaioshin was a short, pink-skinned entity with pointed ears and a white mohawk.

Old Kaioshin-sama
(While his name/title is technically the same as that of Kaioshin, he is also referred to as "Dai Mae Kaioshin," or "Kaioshin from 15 generations back." Gokuu simply refers to him as "jiichan," or "old man.")
The ancestor of the present Kaioshin from fifteen generations back, this old man was imprisoned in the magical Zet sword millenia ago, and freed when Gohan accidentally breaks the sword. He has unusual powers, including the ability to increase a warrior's power by bringing out hidden strength, and it is his ancient knowledge that reveals the hidden Fusion magic of the Potara earrings. Later, he reveals that he, too, is a Fused being, combined with an old witch long ago (and maybe a hermaphrodite? ^ ). The old Kaioshin is, like virtually every old man in DB, also a pervert; he agrees to help Gokuu and company in exchange for nude pictures of Bulma (Vejiita goes ballistic).

Kaiou-sama
He can be sometimes dubbed as the "World King." This odd-looking creature is the ruler of the quadrant of the galaxy which contains Earth, and is of a higher order than the planetary Kamis. With his assistants (a giant cricket named Gregory [anime only] and a chimp named Bubbles), he watches over the North Galaxy. Kaio-sama is a comic figure, alternating between grave seriousness and incredible silliness; for example, he trains Gokuu only after his deady battle with Raditz, his brother. Gokuu proves his worth to be trained by telling bad jokes (very bad jokes) and later acts as advisor/patron for the warrior, even after Gokuu's other deaths. Kaio-sama is killed during the fight against Cell, but it doesn't appear to have affected his status as Kaio; he simply has a halo over his head now. He is a squat little creature, pale blue in coloring with antennae, and he wears shades.

Kamesennin/Mutenroshi
Sometimes dubbed as the "Turtle Master" This seemingly harmless old man is known for two extraordinary abilities: 1) he is master of the Turtle school of martial arts, and one of the greatest (Human) martial artists on Earth, and 2) he is an incredible pervert, and spends much of his time chasing after young girls like Bulma and Lunch. He is also several hundred years old, and the creator of the Kamehameha technique, whick alone took 50 years to perfect. It is this old man who trained Gokuu and Kurilyn (and later Yamucha and Tenshinhan) during the early years of DB. When not slavering/having nosebleeds over various female characters (and usually getting the daylights knocked out of him by same), he is grave and reserved, zen-master-like. Physical---Kamesennin looks like a stocky, bald old man with a long white moustache and beard. He is sometimes shown with a turtle shell on his back, and occasionally wears silly tropical-print shirts and shorts. He almost always wears shades.

Krillin

Also Known As: Kuririn, Kulilin, Kurilyn, Kulilyn, Klilyn, and many others.
Krillin is a young monk who initially joined Kamesennin as a student by bargaining his way in; he is first a rival and fellow student and later a close friend to Gokuu. The source of much of Dragonball's humor, Krillin is equal with Gokuu in power for a brief time, and is quickly left behind to become a DB second-stringer, although he is possibly the most powerful of the Human fighters. Krillin is silly, charming, and a quintessential "lonely guy" (in the anime, he is also depicted as a bit of a hentai, probably due to Kamesennin's influence; in the manga, however, he simply falls instantly in love with #18 at first sight). He is fiercely loyal to Gokuu, and will fight even when the odds are hopeless. He is known for the Ki-en-zan, a spinning energy-disc attack. Eventually he marries the cyborg Juhachigou (Number 18), and has a daughter, Marron. He has the distinction of being the fighter who has died the most times (3, I think).

Physical---Krillin is one of the shortest of the DB-senshi; first introduced as a boy, he grows only a little over the years. He has no nose, but is generally acknowledged as Human. As a symbol of his monastic order, he has six dots on his head, which is shaved bald for much of the series. As a student of Kamesennin, Krillin often wears the same orange dogi as Gokuu. Later, after marrying Juhachigou(Number 18), he grows hair in a short, strange-looking bob style.

Sempyou/Karin-sama
A powerful, wise entity who trains Gokuu prior to his fight against Piccolo Daimaou, Karin lives at the midpoint of Karin Tower, and will normally only see visitors if they climb up the whole way (and it's a long climb). He grows and dispenses senzu, the little magical beans that provide instant healing and energy. Karin looks something like a large white cat.

Yamucha
The only human fighter among Goku's team of fighters. One of the earliest characters we see in the series, Yamucha is initially a "bad guy," waylaying travelers out in the desert, until he is defeated by Gokuu. Later he joins the first quest for the Dragonballs, hoping to use them to wish for an end to his notorious shyness/awkwardness around women (he actually loses a battle when he stares at Bulma). Not surprisingly, he winds up in a relationship with Bulma for much of the series. Throughout early DB, he is first a rival, then a friend and fellow student of Gokuu; later he becomes one of the DB "second string" (great fighters, but nothing compared to the power of the Saiyajin and half-Saiyajin warriors). He's a good martial artist and an all-around nice guy, also the source of much of the humor in the series. His martial art style is the way of the wolf, thus some of his wolf techniques. He is probably the weakest fighter among all of the fighters. He is inseparable from his shapechanging friend Pouaru.

Physical---Initially very vain, Yamucha is first introduced as a handsome young man with long, wild hair; by the end of the series, he has cut his hair short and received several scars on his once-unblemished face.

Puuaru
Yamcha's loyal sidekick, he is a floating cat with the ability to change shape.
Oolong
A pig who, like Puuaru, is a shape-shifter. He used to be a lawless prankster until Bulma reformed him. He has a similar perverted mind like Kamesennin but not as perverted as him. At least he has some control.

Lunch
No, it's not a joke. Lunch is a young woman with a split personality. Half of her is a sweet and innocent while the other half is a pychopathic maniac. Whenever she sneezes, she'll turn to her psycho side. Another sneeze will change her back. Also, whenever switching to her crazy side, a gun or a weapon always seem to materialize out of thin air when she takes one out. She was rescued by Goku, who was not aware of the double persona at that time. She appeared once in the series and was never seen again.

Yajirobe
During the time when Piccolo-Daimo's terror reigns over the Earth, he encounters and aids the weakened Goku. Though he is a bit of a coward, he often chooses to stay out of anything risky. Still, he has his moments of heroism. He lives with Sempyou/Karin-sama on Karin Tower and has a large appetite that rivals Goku's. He is the only fighter that cannot fly.
Tenshin-han
Also Known As: Ten Shin Han. Chaouzu sometimes calls him Ten-san.
Appearing earlier in the Dragonball series, this fighter is bald and has a third eye in the middle of his forehead. His origins are somewhat mysterious; he was trained by Tsurusennin (the "Crane Elder"), a rival of Kamesennin (the "Turtle Elder"). While he initially followed the unscrupulous code of his then-master, his sense of honor prompted him to defect from Tsurusennin's tutelage and join Gokuu and company. Tenshinhan is something of a mystery in personality as well; stoic, ascetic, and somewhat intense, he is a serious foil to Kulilyn and Yamucha's frequent silliness. For a brief period of the series, he may have had a relationship with Lunch, with whom he lived for a time. Why he has a third eye is unknown; however, he is generally acknowledged as Human. He has remarkable fighting skills and abilities; he might be the strongest of the Human fighters. He is known for the suicide attack Ki-Kou-Hou, in which he draws upon his own life-force to create a power-blast; if he does this too much, he can die. He is inseparable from and fiercely loyal to his odd companion, Chaouzu.

Physical---Tenshinhan is one of the largest of the DB-senshi, bigger than even adult Gokuu. He is completely bald, and has a third eye, which is planted in the middle of his forehead; this eye appears to have no special function other than improving his sight. He is very muscular, and is usually shown wearing a white tank top and blue pants or a green wrap.

Chaouzu
Also Known As: Chozo, Chiaozu, Cha Zu, and others.
Chaouzu is the companion of Tenshinhan; the origin of their relationship is unknown. He isn't particularly powerful physically, but has tremendous "ki" and telekinetic abilities. He has one major weakness: math (even simple addition can confuse him). The smallest (and certainly the strangest-looking) of the DB-senshi, he is inseparable from his three-eyed friend.

Physical---Chaouzu has been described as a "Chinese ghost" in appearance. He looks like a child-sized clown doll, with a little beanie cap on.

Videl
Also Known As: Bidel, Videru, Bideru, Veidel, and many others.
Mr. Satan's daughter, Videl has her father's spirit without the stupidity/cowardice; she is a very good martial artist, and even takes on the task of fighting crime around Satan City. She discovers Gohan's abilities and blackmails him into entering the Tenkaichi Budokai and teaching her to fly. Later she discovers the truth about the DB senshi's powers and her father's deceptions; thereafter she is embarassed by Mr. Satan's posturing. She's probably stronger than her father, although this is uncertain. Later she marries Gohan and has one daughter by the end of the series.

Physical---Videl is a teenaged girl for most of the time that we see her, and at first has long hair in ponytails, which she cuts into a bob at Gohan's suggestion. She dresses somewhat tomboyishly, usually wearing a tank top over a t-shirt and fighting gloves.

Mr. Popo
Mr.Popo is the assistant/right hand man of Earth's Kami, whoever that might be (he has been present through the tenure of both the old Kami and Dende). Understandably, he has a great deal of knowledge and wisdom; he also speaks the Nameck language. He is a stout creature with completely ebony coloring, probably intended to be a genie or djinn (he flies on a carpet sometimes).

Raditz
Raditz is a Saiya-jin just like Goku. He claims to be Goku's brother upon arriving on Earth. His mission was to kill his own brother and was killed at the hands of Piccolo's super fireball attack. At the time he was on Earth, he was considered as a powerful enemy. But he wasn't the only one nor was he the strongest.
Nappa
A Saiya-jin, he came to Earth along with Vegeta to finish Raditz' failed mission. He is, what I say, all brawns and some brains. He's skilled and quick. He died at the hands of Vegeta's single attack because of his defeat with Goku.
Freeza
Freeza is formerly known as the ruler of the galaxy. His power is unheard of at the time he appears. He is the one who has destroyed the home world of the Saiya-jin, Planet Vegeta. Very cold at heart and is very cocky. He has four forms: his normal form, his fighting form that looks just like his normal form but more buffed up and bull-like horns that sticks upward, a weird alien parody form, and a final form which looks very sleek. He is killed by Goku after killing Klilyn which triggers Goku's transformation to the Super Saiya-jin form. He comes back a year after the battle only to be totally obliterated by Trunks, the Super Saiya-jin from the future.
Number 16 (Jurokugou)
Usually depicted in Japanese as the number "16" with the kanji for "gou" afterward.

Also Known As: None. "Number 16," "16 gou," and "Jurokugou" are all applicable.
This big android is one of the few of Dr. Gero's creations who switched sides; a nature-loving gentle giant, he asks Bulma to reprogram him after Cell devours the other Jinzouningen and becomes perfect. He tries to blow up Cell, but is destroyed instead; it is the sight of No. 16's head smashed beneath Cell's foot that finally goads Gohan into SSJ2. No. 16 is a fully mechanical android, built to resemble a big guy in green clothes with a red-haired mohawk. He is actually stronger than Junanagou and Juhachigou, but Dr. Gero considered him defective because of his gentle nature.

Number 17 (Junanagou)
Usually depicted in Japanese as the number "17" with the kanji for "gou" afterward.

Also Known As: See Jurokugou note.
With his twin sister No. 18, this cold-eyed youth is one of the deadliest of Dr. Gero's creations. In the alternate timeline of Future Trunks, No. 17 and 18 killed off all of the Z fighters and terrorized the planet until Trunks returned from his visit to the past to finally get his revenge. The boyish No. 17 was the more sadistic of the pair in Trunks' timeline, delighting in such pastimes as running down humans with a car and shooting people with his beloved gun. In the current DBZ timeline, No. 17 never got the chance to terrorize the world; after killing his creator Dr. Gero, he only gets a chance to drive a car (in both timelines, he likes driving) before Cell shows up and makes a tasty snack out of him. However, the rumor in DB fandom is that No. 17 may not have expired after all . . .

Physical---No. 17 is a cyborg rather than a fully mechanical android, and looks like a teenaged boy with shoulder-length black hair. For some reason, he wears a pistol strapped to his hip (this is a guy who can blow up a planet. What does he need a gun for?).

Number 18 (Juhachigou)
Usually depicted in Japanese as the number "18" with the kanji for "gou" afterward.

Also Known As: See Jurokugou note.
In Future Trunks' timeline, No. 18 was the prettiest mass-murderer on the planet. She and her brother killed off all of the DB senshi, and then proceeded to wipe out most of the Earth's population. In that timeline she was a typical teenaged girl, interested in new clothes and obsessed with her appearance, who also just happened to be a super-powerful homicidal sociopath. In the current DB timeline, however, she was eaten and later regurgitated by Cell; after her recovery from this, she settled down with Kurilyn and had a daughter. Perhaps the experience of being nearly annihilated humbled her; regardless, this No. 18 is cold and sullen, but a "good" character, and only shows friendliness with her husband and daughter. She has fought only rarely since the Cell saga, but she has extorted money from Mr. Satan (she threw a fight with him so that he could remain World Champion, but demanded his winnings in return).

Physical---No. 18 looks like a pretty young woman with blond hair and blue eyes. She is usually shown lounging against a wall or something, thowing cold glares at everyone who looks at her.

Mr. Satan
Also Known As: None.
Mr. Satan claims the title of World Champion, and is the biggest fake in the known galaxy. While he has some ability, it is nothing compared to even the least of the DB senshi; yet Satan has managed to hide his weakness time and again, often in the most hilarious ways. He conned the world into believing that it was he, rather than Gokuu and Gohan, who destroyed Cell, and wound up having a city named after him as a result. Mr. Satan is terrified of anyone discovering his deceptions, and goes to ridiculous lengths to cover it up (he pretends to throw a match to Chibi Trunks, who only taps him and knocks him across the arena; later, No. 18 agrees to throw a match to him in exchange for the monetary prize of the tournament). Satan should be given some credit; he helped Gohan reach SSJ2 during the Cell fight, and later was integral in winning the fight against the evil Majin Buu. He's got a good heart underneath all of the deceptions, and might even be considered a good martial artist if not for the DB senshi.

Physical---Satan looks like a brawny professional wrestler with curly black hair and a handlebar moustache, and is usually seen posturing before a crowd.
