Angels In The Arts
MUSIC
From ancient times music has brought us closer to the
presence of God and the angels. Chanting, singing hmns,
repeating mantras and even ryhthmical drumming has ways
of getting God's attention. In every sect--ancient, modern,
Eastern or Western--Christian, Jewish or Muslin--music is
a part of religious services. Musicians through the ages
have said they were touched by a divine voice.
Bach wrote only for God and his compositions are
heavenly.
Mozart heard notes from another spere and simply
captured them.
George Handel experienced a celestial encounter
while completing "The Messiah.: When finished, a servant
found him in tears, "I think I did see all heaven open to
me!: he exclaimed.
POETRY
Major poet and writers focus on angels.
Tomas Aguinas wrote extensively about angels.
Dante Alighierie, the Italian poet's "Divine Comedy" is
filled with images of angels both good and bad.
John Milton spent most of his life writing his
masterpieces "Paradise Lost" and "Paradise Regained",
which explored the mystery of fallen angels and their
impact on human history.
Emanual Swedenborg, the Swdish scientist wrote
abot celestial encounters that lasted until his death in
1772. His writing influences other thinkers of his time.
William Blake, the poet and painter, was influenced
by Swedenborg and produced some of history's greatest
angel art. Both the angels he painted and those in his
poetry were based on angels he had seen since boyhood.
He wrote that he awoke one morning to a vision of
innumerable angels chanting, "Holy, Holy, Holy is Lord
God Almighty."
Fra Angelico, the great Renasissance artist also
saw angels and then painted these personal encounters.
He is considered one of the greatest angel artist of all time.
Michelango's work overfloed with images of angels. The
beautiful celing of the Sistine Chapel is perhaps history's
greatest example of his angel art.

times is "It's A Wonderful Life", the Jimmy Stewart classic

The hit movie "Fields of Dreams" does not actually
refer to angels but audiences are left wondering if the
disembodied voice that told Kevin Costner, "if you build
it, he will come", might have been an angel sent to heal
the father-son relationship between Costner's character
and his deceased father.
"Heaven Can Wait" features a mischievous angel whose
job it was to fix the untimely passing of star Warren Beatty.
Television's "Highway to Heaven" was very popular.
Michael Landon played an angel whose mission on Earth
was to persuade people to love and help one another.
Today one of the most popular shows on television is
"Touched By An Angel" in which three angels intervene in
the loves of ordinary people, providing comfort, guidance
