Asumed to be the best layer ever to live Gretzky is my hero and hopfully yours .

NHL 1979-1999
Birthdate: January 26, 1961
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 180 lbs
Position: Center

Wayne Gretzky, who retired from the National Hockey League in 1999 following a 20-year professional career, is generally considered to be the greatest hockey player of all time. He broke 61 NHL records while with the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings, and Edmonton Oilers. He even surpassed hockey legend Gordie Howe’s career goal total of 801 goals in March of 1994. Last year, Gretzky went on to become only the 10th player to enter the Hockey Hall of Fame without the mandatory three-year waiting period.

Most recently, this husband (to actress Janet Jones) and father of three was selected as the Canadian male athlete of the century by the Canadian Press/Broadcast News survey of newspaper sports editors and broadcasters, Sports Illustrated's Hockey Player of the Century and ESPN's fifth greatest athlete of the 20th century.

Career Highlights:

There's a reason Wayne Gretzky is called "The Great One" -- and it's not because he scored 378 goals in one season as a youngster. There are 61 reasons for the distinction; that's the number of NHL records that he broke in his 20 years in the league, and they don't even begin to do justice to the full story behind the legend. Number 99 has been called the most dominant individual in a modern team sport; his stats and awards not only support that claim, they make it seem like an understatement.

Gretzky played as a center for the Edmonton Oilers from 1979-1988, the Los Angeles Kings from 1988-1996, the St. Louis Blues in 1995-1996 and the New York Rangers until his retirement in 1999. He's famous for skating behind the net with the puck in his offensive zone, looking to feed open teammates in the front of the net. In fact, commentators refer to that part of the ice as "Gretzky's Office." He's famous for a lot more, however. His childhood hero, hockey legend Gordie Howe, once remarked on Gretzky's skill by saying, "I sometimes think that if you part Wayne's hair you'll find another eye."

During his time in the NHL, Gretzky racked up the honors, from his four Stanley Cup wins (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988) to his appearances in 18 All-Star Games. He's the all-time NHL leader in goals scored (894), the all-time leader in assists (1,963) and the all-time leader in points (2,857). He led his team to the playoffs 16 times. He holds or shares 61 NHL records, 40 for the regular season, 15 for the playoffs and six for all-star competition.
