Night fell quickly and Billy was still unable to leave her hideout safely. There was no one out there in the streets since most of the citizens were asleep or at home, and the only person to keep her company was Hexadecimal, which wasn’t very pleasant.

“I don’t know why I have to stay here with you,” the once-virus said, as if BILLY was the burden. I’m perfectly fine-“

“You have nowhere to go right now, your lair is taken over no doubt, and I don’t think you’re in a condition to be around other people. You still have some of the virus in you.” Billy peered out from their little room toward the alleyways.

“So you expect ME to stay HERE?”

“Until someone else finds you or you decide to leave.” She stood up, dusting herself off. “I’m going to Baudway, see if I can retrieve some things from my apartment. I’m going to be able to be on the run for very long with some supplies and if I stay in Baudway I’ll be found out even sooner.”

Hexadecimal started to protest and throw another tantrum on how Scuzzy was still trapped at the lair, but Billy just walked out.

Away from the room, everything was much quieter. Billy reached the main street, taking out her gun. Glancing left and right, the only lights she saw were from residential buildings and Dot’s Diner. However the Diner’s lights were on low, meaning maybe one or two people were there, closing up.

Not taking any chances, Billy went in the opposite direction of the diner, grabbing her zipboard and flying towards Baudway.

After getting her things, she planned on heading for Hexadecimal’s Lair to see what exactly Daemon was doing. So far everything was quiet, making her feel very uneasy. What was worst was that everyone thought SHE was Daemon, so they didn’t even seem to consider the possible dangers COMING from the Lair.

Kind of like guarding your front, but getting attacked from the back.

Reaching the main Baudway building, she headed for the side entrance where the hotel section was. Once inside she closed her zip board and walked down the hallway toward hers.

Making a few corners, starting to feel better about herself, she stopped, surprised at what she saw just around the next corner.

Two officers from the Mainframe Military service were standing side by side outside her apartment door, fully loaded and armed.

Her eyes widening, she jumped back out of sight, just as they looked in her direction. Luckily they didn’t see her and continued on with their watch.

She couldn’t believe it. The PO had ordered her room to be watched! Probably so that when she comes back they’d catch her and take her away.

Now what was she going to do?

Daemon had left the main room in Hexadecimal’s Lair and went to find somewhere she could get some rest. Even though she really didn’t need it, considering she only was a petri-dish, her host’s body needed sleep and if AndrAIa didn’t get it, she’d be useless to control.

Remembering the rooms she had added on during the time she was in Billy’s body the last time she was in the lair, she headed for one of the bedrooms for some privacy away from Matrix, Megabyte, and the looking glass.

Once there, she locked the door and stood in front of the mirror. Smiling to herself, she decided to let AndrAIa have a little control.

The reflection in the mirror seemed to shift, and its’ facial expression looked weaker, less confident, more desperate.

“Daemon, you can’t do this,” the reflection spoke, now looking a lot like AndrAIa’s true self. “I won’t let you.”

Daemon chuckled, even though the reflection didn’t. “You really think you can stop me? You have no power, nor control over me, you can’t even fight it.”

“But Megabyte, why are you even bringing him back? You have no need for him! It’s not like he’s going to make conquest easier for you.”

Daemon just shook her head. “Oh yes he well, just not in a way that you think.”

Her reflection’s expression changed to one of possible fear, but she had no time to study it when there was a knock on her door.

“Who is it?” she asked, taking full control, the mirror now reflecting what she really was doing.

“Megabyte.”

She sighed. He really was a nuissance, no matter how valuable he was. Taking one last look in the mirror, she crossed the room and opened the door. The huge sprite stood in the doorway. She looked at him expectantly.

“What are you doing here? I thought I made it clear that I didn’t want to be bothered until tomorrow.”

He looked at her, amused. “You know, I don’t allow that many to talk to me like that.”

She shook her head at the threat. “Well you’re dealing with me now, Megabyte, so get used to it.” Leaving the door open, she returned to the mirror.

He walked in, following her until he stood behind her, watching her in the reflection. She didn’t say anything, just ignored him, brushing AndrAIa’s hair with a hairbrush she had found.

“Used to switching different hosts?” he spoke up.

“It’s a living,” she replied. “Even though some hosts aren’t as flattering as others.”

“Don’t worry about that,” he said, putting a hand on her shoulder. “You like fine just the way you are.”

She didn’t like the way he sounded. Walking out of his grasp she turned to face him. “You can’t make any moves until tomorrow morning. Right now we stay silent and unknown.”

“What good will that do?” Megabyte demanded, still looking straight at her.

“Because,” she said. “Right now Bob, Dot, and the others think I’m in Billy and now they’re targeting her. They have no idea we’re here, or that you’re back in Mainframe.”

He smiled at the thought. “I can’t wait until I see the look on Bob’s face when I see them tomorrow. And what of Matrix? We just leave him here?”

She paused, thinking. “I’ll deal with him.”

“What are you going to do?”

“I don’t know yet. Now leave me, I need to rest for tomorrow.” She stood there, waiting. He slowly nodded and turned to leave the room. She stood there until he was fully gone, the door closed tightly, before rolling her eyes.

If he weren’t so damn valuable to her, she would’ve never brought him out of the web to begin with.

Billy stood just around the corner of the guards, now realizing how much danger she was in. How many other guards were there in the whole building? Did they have different posts? And if so, they were bound to move around, so sooner or later she’d be found out.

I’m getting out of here’, she thought, turning back down the hallway in the direction she had came in. Unfortunately her predictions were right and just as she was passing the elevator going up and down, its doors opened and two more guards stepped out, spotting her.

Both of them grabbed their guns and pointed it at her.

“Freeze!”

Turning, her eyes widened and she immediately took off running. They started firing but she turned the corner, missing the shots. A loud alarm was set off and she cringed as it blasted out from speakers on the walls. Hearing footsteps and yelling in the hallways behind her, she turned a corner and ran even faster-

Coming to a dead end.

There was nothing there but a huge window overlooking the city. Instead of stopping she picked up speed and-

Crashed right through the window, about 100 or more stories up in the air. Glass flew everywhere and she fell for a few moments, feeling the adrenaline rush, the wind hitting her from below. A scream sounded from her throat when she looked down, seeing how far she was from the ground.

A moment later she had her zipboard unhooked and placed beneath her feet. Snapping it open, she took control of her fall and managed to fly away from the building.

Slowing down long enough to glance up, she saw the guards reach the now broken window, watching her. Taking out their guns, the binomes aimed at her, firing. Turning around so she was flying backwards, she lifted her gun and fired back, not hitting them, but close enough to get the point across that she wasn’t afraid to fight back.

A few seconds later she was farther away from the building and out of range. She smiled. She was getting away afterall.

Suddenly a huge flood of light flashed on her and she winced, nearly blinded. Looking up she saw several hovering aircrafts above her, floodlights trained on her.

“Aaagh!” she cried out, surprised, raising her arms to shield herself from the light. More aircrafts showed up, and a loud voice came from one of them over a speaker. It was female and sounded awfully familiar, commanding.

“We have you surrounded! Don’t attempt to escape or we’ll be forced to shoot!”

Billy looked around, not knowing what to do. She was surrounded on all sides, even above her-

But not below.

Glancing down she saw open space and darkness on the city below. Taking that oppurtunity, she turned off the power of the zipboard, allowing her to free-fall downward, as if she wasn’t even on the board.

They couldn’t catch her this way.

Before she could even finish the thought, something crashed into the zipboard and she screamed, falling forward. The gun went flying from her hands and the zipboard flew out from under her.

To her surprise, another board stopped her fall. A long board…a surf board.

“Hey mate,” a voice said above her, and she glanced up to see Ray standing there, controlling the board. She was barely on it, her legs hanging over the edge.

“No!” she shouted, hitting him. She wasn’t going to get captured this way. To her surprise though, he made no move to grab her. Instead he fell back, surprised at her attack and trying to control the board at the same time.

Now only a few meters above the ground, she rolled away from him and fell off the board, falling for just a second and hitting the street below. She felt the air go out of her body as she groaned in pain. It took a moment before she could breath normally again.

The hovercrafts above were descending, floodlights now trained on the streets.

“We order you to stay where you are, Daemon,” the same, female commanding voice said again over the speaker, “Or we will shoot!”

Billy slowly got to her feet, her whole body aching. Looking up she saw the crafts getting closer and closer.

She had only one thought in her mind and she took it. Seeing a couple of run down alleyways on her right, she headed for that, hearing the hovercrafts firing and hitting the road behind her. She ran as fast as she could until she reached them, then started running frantically down one as fast as she could.

Her legs screamed for relief from all the running- along with her chest. She had to stop sometime, she couldn’t keep going like this. She had no idea where she was in the city anymore, she didn’t know how far away from her hiding place she really was.

She skidded to a stop and nearly cried out when a weapon went flying inches from across her face, embedding itself in the wall. The weapon was long and stuck out, blocking her path.

A katana.

Billy looked to her right to see Mouse casually approaching her from afar. She had a small smile on her face. Almost as if she were enjoying this confrontation.

“Hello again,” she said, “…Daemon.”

Billy shook her head. “No, you’ve got it all wrong, I’m not Daemon!”

Mouse didn’t seem to care and Billy was beginning to feel scared. These Mainframers really were determined when it came to fighting their enemies. In the past she’d always told herself how she’d hate to be their enemy because of how brutally they tried to stop them. Now she WAS one of them, not just as Daemon, but HERSELF.

Billy tried again. “I’m not Daemon, you’ve got the wrong person! Don’t you see, I’m trying to help you!”

Mouse had reached her then and still hadn’t said anything. Then, out of the blue, she swung her arm, sending a mean punch in Billy’s direction.

Reflexes took over and Billy ducked the blow, trying to get away. She didn’t want to fight Mouse but now it seemed she had to. Ducking the next blows sent toward her, she dropped to the ground and swung her leg, tripping the hacker. Mouse cried out in surprise and fell back, the air pushed out of her as she hit the floor.

Billy immediately took off running, trying to get away. She didn’t know how close the hovercrafts were now and she didn’t care. She just had to escape.

Suddenly a weird sensation formed around her as she felt herself being lifted off the ground, halting her in her run. She reached out, trying to break free from the energy ball she had somehow gotten into. Everything around her was yellow, sparkling yellow, like energy surrounding her…

Looking up, she saw Bob hovering above her on a zipboard, hands outstretched, pouring his Glitch powers to create a shield around her, keeping her from being attacked.

The bad part was that he was keeping her from getting away as well.

“No!” she shouted, banging against the shield, feeling her body weaken from the intensity of the energy. “You’ve got the wrong person, Bob, you’ve got to believe me!”

She looked at his face, looking for some sort of sign. To her surprise he looked sad and sympathetic…remorseful...

Regretful.

“Bob!” she shouted, “please stop!”

Then the shield overwhelmed her and she felt everything turn bright red.

Then black.
