When will the world at large wake their dozy arses up and scream from every rooftop 'truly A Man Called Adam are the sons of God and I'm going to sell my house and all its contents and dedicate my life to following them around like a devoted puppy for such adulation is all they deserve', eh?" Alexis Petredis on the 'Fear of Flying' LP in Update 1996.
Underground, Overground.
In 1990, after 3 groundbreaking 12 inches for Acid Jazz (A>P>B>/Earthly/Techno Powers, Amoeba/Musica de Amor), A Man Called Adam signed to Big Life Records on the back of their underground hit 'Barefoot In the Head' and its mainstream release saw it go top 40 in the National Chart. Paul Daley left the band to form Leftfield and Rodgers and Jones released their debut album in 1991, 'The Apple' which tapped into the new age mindset.
In 1993 Rodgers and Jones left Big Life and went into partnership with long time friend and founder of the design company The Unknown, Steve 'Jaffa' Gribbin to form Other Records. Early releases on the label included tracks from Rosie Gaines and Maria Naylor and an A Man Called Adam album of Jazzy experimentation under the alias Beachflea.
