POINT-SLOPE FORM OF A LINEAR EQUATION



The POINT-SLOPE of the equation of a nonvertical line the passes through the point (x1,y1) with slope is y-y1=m(x-x1)



EXAMPLE #1 Write the equation of the line with slope -3 the passes through the point (-1,7).



y-y1-m(x-x1) USE THE POINT- SLOPE FORM. y-7= -3[x-(1)] SUBSTITUTE (-1,7) FOR (X1,Y1) AND -3 FOR M. y-7= -3(x+1 SIMPLIFY INSIDE THE GROUPING SYMBOLS.
