On October 21 to October 29, 2000, DR. EVANGELINA HILARIO-
LACSON, the venerable 84-year old president emeritus of
the AKADEMYANG KAPAMPANGAN based in Angeles City, visited
the AGUMAN CAPAMPANGAN NORTHWEST U.S.A. in Portland,
Oregon, after hearing about the celebrated club well-known
for its medical missions to Pampanga. After a week-long
seminar and workshops in Kapampangan culture, which include
language, literature and history, she and the members of the
AGUMAN headed by ERNIE C. TURLA, forged unity, and their
union facilitated the formation of the AKADEMYANG
KAPAMPANGAN, U.S.A. This special joint project enlisted the
members of the AGUMAN, as its initial members, or pioneers,
and the AKADEMYANG KAPAMPANGAN U.S.A. became the pilot club
in the U.S. for the main AKADEMYANG KAPAMPANGAN in Pampanga,
and as such, is duly entrusted to overseer all future
affiliate chapters in the U.S. Its main goal is to promote
Kapampangan culture, especially its language, literature and
history, by teaching it to those who have immigrated to the
U.S., including their children. Its members are knighted and
crowned during their initiation and are honorably conferred
with the titles "Sir" and "Lady". Thus, there is a Sir Rudy
and a Lady Frida. The Akademya's search for new members has
been launched and is now in full swing! All Kapampangan clubs
are invited to join and may contact Ernie C. Turla, the president
of the Akademyang Kapampangan U.S.A.
