| The evil Shin-Ra Electric Power Company has been building 'Mako Reactors' which suck out the blood of the Planet, which is a living thing, and converting it into Mako Energy. This is killing the Planet. They are also trying to find the'Promised Land', a land rich in Mako. Sadly, the Promised Land was made for the Ancients, or 'Cetra' who were on the planet before humans. The Shin-Ra have found a being who they think is an Ancient,who they named Jenova, in a layer of ice near the Promised Land. Unfortunately, Jenova is not an Ancient but a virus that hideously disfigures it's victims. The Cetra managed to trap her(yes, it's a she)in the ice, but it was found by Professor Gast, who wanted to find more knowledge of the Cetra. He found that Jenova cells, when injected into a fetus, would give it 'super human'powers such as incredible strength. The Shin-Ra have used this to create an army of men who would overwhelm their enemies.They called this army SOLDIER.Professor Gast's rival,Hojo, seduced a woman named Lucrecia and they had a child, who was named Sephiroth. Sephiroth was treated with Jenova cells and Mako injections as a child. Nine years later Professor Gast later fell in love with the last Ancient, Ilfanya.They ran away from Shin-Ra's capital, Midgar, and went to a town on the North Continent called Icicle. They soon had a child, who they named Aeris. Twenty days after Aeris was born, Professor Hojo, found them and killed Gast and also captured Ilfanya and Aeris. Ilfanya escaped from Shin-Ra HQ, and made it to the slums in Sector 7.A woman named Elmyra found them and Ilfanya gave Aeris to her. Elmyra raised Aeris as her own child.While this was going on, in a town called Nibelheim, two children were born and were named Cloud and Tifa. When Cloud was 14 he left Nibelheim to join SOLDIER. When Cloud joined SOLDIER, Sephiroth had become General of Shin-Ra's army. Cloud became a member of Sephiroth's unit and they became 'war buddies'. Soon the war was over (we never find out what this war was about) , Cloud and Sephiroth, with two other men, were sent to Nibelheim to dicover and stop the cause of it's faulty Mako Reactor. It seems that this reactor has been producing monsters. They arrive at the town, and the next day, they set off for the reactor. They have obtained a guide, and Cloud was amazed to find that it was Tifa. They get to the reactor, and when inside, Sephiroth finds a door with the inscription 'Jenova'. We learn that Sephiroth had been told as a child that his mother's name was Jenova. He opens the door and inside the room is a hideous creature frozen in ice. Sephiroth wonders if he is a monster, as he always felt better than other children. They then leave for the town.Sephiroth then goes into the mansion that is in the town square and Cloud searches for him. He finds him in a secret library where Sephiroth is looking for information about Jenova. This is where Sephiroth goes off the really deep end, and he then leaves the mansion. Choud follows him, and finds that he has set all of Nibelheim on fire.Sephiroth leaves for the Reactor, to 'free his mother' as he puts it. Tifa's father follows him, and at the reactor, is killed by Sephiroth. Tifa chases him and is badly wounded . Cloud then tries to battle Sephiroth and fails, but Sephiroth leaves him alone, takes the head of Jenova, and is last seen walking through the flames of Nibelheim. This all happens five years from the beginning of the main story. |
