Interview with Peter O'Donohoe by Dave Wolff

When did Miscreation initially get together? What was the inspiration for starting the band?
Miscreation officially kicked off in September 1998, with the inspiration behind starting the band being to play the music we love.

What's the band's lineup and which bands are their biggest influences? What are the band's influences collectively?
The line-up to date is Shane on Bass, Gordon on drums, Mark on vocals, myself on rhythm guitar, and Frank the newest member of the band on lead Guitar. Influence-wise, I suppose we derive our style from the NY sound, but really from the underground in general, it all influences us.

Talk a little about the CD demo you have out now. How much of a response has it gotten? What sort of a learning experience was it for the band?
The response to our demo has been terrific, lots of good reviews and great comments. When we first did it, we had mixed thoughts as to what sort of reaction we were going to receive and was surprised to be received so well. We have learned a lot from this demo, some things good and some bad, but as a band it has shown us that if we persist and keep working hard, that response might just grow.

How's the Death Metal scene doing in Australia? Are there also healthy scenes for other styles of underground metal, such as Black and Doom? How do the audiences for these styles get along over there?
Australia is a weird place to describe and it's scene even more so. But at the moment things seem to be picking up, a lot more support is being shown and more heads are starting to turn it's way. There is a lot more unity between the Genres now that didn't really exist before and that is proving to be the best thing to happen in a while. Bigger gigs and better turnouts, it's been great.

What kind of experience is it playing live? Does Miscreation have a big following? Which bands have you performed with?
We are starting to get a pretty good following over here now and seems to be growing progressively every time we play. Over the last year we have played with some great bands such as MISERY, ENCABULOS, PSYCHRIST, DECAYED DIVINITY and we are always looking for Interstate supports as well as International. We just love playing.

Is there a healthy zine trade over there? Which ones would you recommend?
Venomous zine is a terrific mag as well as Loud mag, there are really some great zines over here and trading seems to be picking up, so yeah, I guess you could say that it is healthy.

Are the band writing more material for future releases? In what ways will it differ from your present material?
We are currently writing and rehearsing new material for our next EP release through Venomous records entitled "Altar of Gluttony" due out mid this year and it shouldn't have differed that much to the demo. With the incorporation of Frank on Guitar the musical style has really just concentrated itself, it's a little bit more technical I guess. People will have to judge that one for themselves.

What kind of effect has the Internet had on the scene in your opinion?
A great effect, I really think it is one of the best things that could have happened. So many doors have opened that just weren't easily available before and everything is a lot quicker as well. Websites, E-mail, ICQ, chat rooms, they have all helped in making this scene better and more accessible for people in general.

What's the band's ultimate goal?
Wow.... so many of them, but if I had to name one, it would be to tour the US. We are just taking one step at a time at the moment, making sure we do everything right, trying to establish ourselves and stay true to our music.
