What is Mahavatar's history up to this point?
M: In 1998 Lizza formed a band called Foresight. In the summer of 1999,
Karla joined the remaining members (Lizza/Peter/Benjamin) to form Mahavatar.
This evolved into the band that is now Mahavatar.
What's the band's current lineup?
Lizza Hayson-Vocals, Karla Williams-Guitars, Peter Lobodzinski-Drums.
How do you guys work together as musicians, exchanging and developing ideas and the like?
We speak a language unknown to man, which incorporates the frequent use of the English word "thing". Sometimes we have flashes of emotion that could light up the whole galaxy. Still, we manage to work in complete collaboration as long as we have special herbs and Nag Champa.
Which member of the band writes the lyrics? How do they go about this; what are the biggest influences there? What are the influences on the band's musicianship?
Lizza writes the lyrics. They deal with the issues of humanity, love, politics, religion, personal experiences, justice, racism and emotions. The music and lyrics are directly related.
You've recently released a CD demo. How big a response has it gotten so far?
Actually we've only released a Promo CD single of the song "The Time Has Come." So far, we've received a very positive response from this one offering.
What new material have the band been working on?
We are in the process of completing a 4-song Demo of new and diverse tracks.
Are the band satisfied with the state of the metal scene these days? What changes would you like to see happen?
Yes! Metal has reached a point where it is now mainstream. You can now turn on KROK and listen to Pantera and the like. These musicians have given their blood, sweat, and tears for this music and why should they not reap some commercial gain for their efforts? It's about time people start learning about this advanced music. It is important to expose this music to the masses.
Do you guys read a lot of fanzines? Which ones would you recommend? How about bands you're into?
Karla reads a few and recommends AEA, Chronicles of Chaos, and Renegade
2K. We are into all bands that manage to touch our souls and kick our
asses... anything from classical to African drums.
In your opinion is it generally a better thing to be into a lot of different styles of underground music?
Sure.
What do the band consider their highest goal?
MIND HYPNOTIC VISION TOWARDS REVOLUTION
Anything you wish to close with?
Respect the only ideal worth respecting... freedom. Listen to the sounds and join the revolution!
