How long have you been an artist? What inspired you to start?
Yipe!-- Longer than there is dirt. My Father was drawing in the kitchen when I was a child and I admire what he did and knew that that's what I wanted to do with my life, create 3 dimension images on a 2 dimension surface or paper. The comic book thing came into play later, since I started writing and drawing stories about Batman and
Robin in my composition book. Then when I was 13 I started to create my own characters and that's when my imagination begain to grow.
What was the inspiration for starting Little Miss Strange?
Well, I always wanted to draw Marvel Comics Dr.Strange,Master of the Mystic Arts,so while I was in Visage Studios headed by the legendary Rich Buckler,There was an assignment that require a female character in the genre that you like and next thing I knew Little Miss
Strange was created. At first, she was a sexy pinup girl, then later grew into the character that we know today as the sorceress of Satu.
What is the history and backstory of the character Little Miss Strange?
Scorpia is a black alien sorceress that lives in a temple that is called the temple of Satu. It is also know as the temple of time since it (Satu) sits in the center of time. Satu can be a sort of crossroads for various dimensions and planets.Yet it will always
remain unaffected by time itself, therefore Scorpia can be consider to be somewhat immortal. In the first story arc Scorpia is on a quest to save her homeworld,The seven priests that raised her as a child have left to fight a battle in a higher plane know as The Realm of Vision.
In what ways is LMS similar to and different from other charachers such as Vampirella and Lady Death?
The sex appeal, definitely. Hmmmmmmm The mystical things and creatures that Lady Death faces, maybe.
In what ways, if any, do you feel your character presents an alternative to the general mainstream's image of women?
Hey,Dave. Scorpia is the first Black Alien sorceress,do you know of any other?
How many issues of LMS do you have out altogether?
The first 2 issues were published. The 3rd was not but is in the works. I plan to reprint with a new cover all 3 issues or I will make a graphic novel of the whole story arc.
How often do you attend scifi conventions, etc to promote LMS?
Alot, but I slowed down to complete the books and create new LMS products for the fans. But I shall return, you can believe that!
What projects were you involved in before LMS?
various freelance jobs such as ads for record distribution companies, 8pg stories for independant comic books, lots of inking assignments with my good friend Naser Subashi.
What else can we expect from LMS in the days to come?
I have a video game that can play on a PC,it's not the level of a playstation or dreamcast game but it's nice and I think people will buy it as a novelty item. There will be a portofolio out soon and 8x10 glosses of Little Miss Strange featuring my model, her name is Nicole Bowen, who is a very attractive woman. Boy am I lucky to have her working with me.
Would you like to see LMS made into a feature film someday? If so, how would you envision it?
Yes,live action is cool.So is animation. I might try to do a short film online soon, once I learn the software.
What are your future aspirations?
Just keep drawing and writing that's the thing to do
Anything you wish to end with?
Sure, pay attention to the internet, since I will have a site soon that will showcase Little Miss Strange and other characters, plus I'm working on a project for a French publisher who does online comic books. All those interested, can write me at winstonblakely45@hotmail.com |
