What inspired you to start GORE WORM COMICS?
Well, after I put the METACYESIS zine to rest, I just needed some thing to do that had something to do with the underground in one way or another. I had done one comic story before so I asked a few artist friends of mine if they would be interested in doing something for a comic and they sent their stories so I rushed around through a story together and put it together. That's why the first issue sucked.
Describe the comic to us. How many issues are out now?
GORE WORM has three issues out now, plus I published RUSSEL W. EVANS' MOSH PIT #1. Like I said the first issue kind of sucks, but the other are pretty good; I think each issue gets sicker. My printer said if I got any sicker he may not print it. I've got new for him; I will get sicker and more vile and if I have to I'll find a new printer!
How long have you been an artist? Have you considered making a career out of it?
I don't know really; I guess all my life in one way or another... my earliest memories of drawing are of redrawing my brother's record covers like MOLLY HATCHET, IRON MAIDEN, DIO, etc. Then in '91 or '92 I did some drawings for a zine called PATHOLOGICAL SCUM and then later doing stuff for my own zine and from there progressing to where I am now. Sure I'd love to have a career in art like working for a record company or just anything.
How big a response has the comic gotten since the first issue?
I've gotten a pretty good response, and it's growing better each issue. I hope it gets bigger though.
How many submissions have you gotten of other people's work to put in the comic?
I don't know really. There has been some good artists submitting stuff like RUSSEL W. EVANS, BRAD MOORE, Dave Kibler of LIVIDITY and many more to come. I'll be ntroducing three new artists with a lot of talent in a special issue in November '99 in a more mainstream comic style.
When is the next issue of GORE WORM coming out?
November or December '99 hopefully. I'm actually going to be releasing two comics then. MOSH PIT VS. DEATHSTORM and the comic I was just talking about.
What other publications do you have in the works?
I've actually just started a magazine called SHRIEK. It's going to be a free mag. You can pick it up at shows, record stores or through the mail. I'm also going to start work on GORE WORM #4, the sickest comic to date. I've already got some ideas.
What bands are you listening to lately? What musuc do you listen to a lot of?
Bands I like and listen to a lot right now are DISFIGURED, ENTORTUREMENT, DYING FETUS, and FLESHLESS as well as SUFFOCATION, CANNIBAL CORPSE, INCANTATION, NAPALM DEATH and the roots like SLAYER, CELTIC FROST. You know I can go on for 86 pages but you know already. I'm mostly in to sick grinding Death Metal but I can't help but be an '80's Thrash lover either.
What do you hope to accomplish with your work?
To make people sick with actual physical illness. I don't really know why; I just love doing it.
Anything you wish to close with?
Yes, thanks for the interview; very cool of you. Everyone support the underground. If anyone is interested in anything write me. Need art for your band, zine, whatever, get in touch.
