HISTORY:

Khe Sanh Veteran Association began on Christmas Eve, 1983. Rev. Ray Stubbe, Chaplain at Khe Sanh, July '67-March, '68 Continued his ministry to the troops by providing them with a gift of an initial 19 fellow Khe Sanh Veterans' names, so they may contact each other and renew their bonds.
By May, 1984 their were 33 Khe Sanh Vets on the list and by 10 July 1984, the initial grew to 62.

James Hebron, who served with B/1/26, organized a Welcome Home "ticker tape" parade for Vietnam Veterans and on May 7 1985, more than 50 Khe Sanh Veterans marched as a group behind a specially prepared banner through the streets of New York City.
These men reached out to other veterans known to them and the list rapidly grew to 234 by June, 1985.

Mr. Ernie Husted, Bravo 3rd Recon, volunteered to do a newsletter. The first, sent in Feb., 1986, was mailed to 350 Khe Sanh Vets now on the list. On 13 June 1986, Chicago hosted another Welcome Home parade for Vietnam Vets and Khe Sanh again marched as a group under their special banner.

On 23 July 1988 while at the 3rd Marine Division Reunion focusing on the 20th anniversary of Tet, a group of 69 Khe Sanh Vets resolved to organize, and on Sept.1 1988 Khe Sanh Veterans, Inc., was legally incorporated in the State of Wisconsin as a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization.

Wisconsin, was chosen, as it is Ray Stubbe's home state. By Oct. of 1988, the Khe Sanh Vets Newsletter's mailing list had grown to 820 and the first Khe Sanh Vets Reunion as an independent organization was held in Chicago on 13 July 1989 with 46 in attendance.

A special 25th Anniversary Reunion, of the Siege of Khe Sanh, took place in Washington D.C. on the Forth of July 1993 and was attended by more than 200 Khe Sanh Vets.
During this reunion, a memorial bronze plaque, honoring all who served at Khe Sanh was dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery. A Gingko tree, symbolic of tenacity, survival and remembrance, was planted as part of the memorial site. The memorial site was conceived by Mr. and Mrs. Ken Penn and was dedicated by Gen. Carl E. Mundy Jr., Commandant of the Marine Corps and Khe Sanh Veteran, S-3, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment.

On 15 July a plaque identical to the one in Arlington National Cemetery, was dedicated at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO, in conjunction with the annual Khe Sanh Veterans Reunion.

Khe Sanh Veterans Association Inc., is a non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian 501-c(19), Veterans' Fraternal Organization. All donations (including dues) are fully tax deductible.
