Welcome to the May issue of the Fenton Flyer. There is just one point I would like to mention and that is that RAF Mildenhall Airshow has been cancelled due to the recent events in Kosova.
Donnington World Superbikes 2-3rd May
This event is a very good event to get the squadron in the public eye, cadets were tasked with bike parking and collecting rider's helmets, for 'Honda UK Riders Club'.
At this event cadets stay in tents on Saturday night, on the evening we have fish 'n' chips for our tea and spend the night in the exhibition centre, where there was a live band playing called the 'Po Boys', the drummer for the band is Jamie Whitham. Jamie is a superbike rider, for Suzuki.
On the Sunday morning we got up at the crack of dawn and we had our breakfast and we were on the field for 08:00hr to park motorbikes and collect helmets. During the day on Sunday we were able to watch the 2 World Superbike races where Carl Fogerty, who was on a Ducati, won the 1st race and Colin Edwards, who was on a Honda, won the 2nd race. Between the two races there were other motorbike events such as the Super Sport Bikes which are 600cc motorbikes.
After the day on Sunday we were told be Honda Representatives that the cadets had done an extremely good job and they were so impressed with us that they have invited us, if we are able to attend, all other Honda events at different race tracks throughout the country for the remainder of the year and coming years free of charge.
This is obviously something that we are looking at closely.

Duke of Edinburgh (D of E) Award
At cadets we also do the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The D of E has 3 levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Bronze and Silver D of E both consist of a physical, where cadets have to take part in various sports until they get the points required. (Each sport has a certain amount awarded to it). It also has a service where the cadets have to attend a 6-week course at fire, police or ambulance services. It also involves a skill where cadets must choose an activity, such as taking their leading cadet exam. And finally there is the expedition, a practice to see if the cadets can use compasses and can map read, and the final where the cadets have to walk 15 miles in two days and the silver D of E they have to walk 30 miles in 3 days.
At the Gold level you need to repeat the steps above but carry them out for longer periods of time. There is also an added section this is 'residential' where you have to stay away from home for a week taking part in various activities such as overseas camp with other cadets.
Once you have passed either of the D of E awards you are given a badge to sew onto you're uniform and a certificate. When you have passed the Gold D of E award you are presented it by the Duke Of Edinburgh himself at Buckingham Palace.
The different sections of the award are recorded in a record book. The Bronze and Silver awards are combined into one book but there is a separate book for the Gold award.
If you can get you're hands on a hard copy of the Fenton Flyer then you see there is a quiz on it with the prize 'one weeks free subs' here are the questions:
1. Riddle -
What is greater than God?
More evil than the Devil
Rich people want it
Poor people have it
And if you eat it you die
2. When was the A.T.C. founded?
3. Name the song from the lyrics -
Don't worry, don't panic
ain't nothing going on but history
There is also a word search but I cannot put this on the web site.
Remember to vote for this site in the top left corner of the page, thankyou
